question about hood, sqeuaky brakes and random noise...

hi,
the max is looking and feeling great but i've been having some not good sounds. i don't know how or when it happened, but my hood isn't resting completely on the mounts because it rattles slightly when i'm driving and have radio off and window down. i looked at all the contact points and they seem to be the same as they've always been. i'm not too sure how to keep it from rattling, it seems easy enough to fix but i'm not sure how. any suggestions?

second, my brakes have been squeaking a lot lately. i know there are threads on this but i'm not sure what to do. i'm thinking of going to meineke and having them check them out for me. i think maybe i need new pads but am not sure yet, i have to check. any suggestions about that?

and third, i've noticed a few times(about 3 maybe 4) this squeak. i only hear it when my windows are down and when coasting around 40 mph. it makes the same noise as my brakes but not as loud, it doesn't sound like a belt though so i have no idea what it is. i have a cone intake but don't think that's where the almost whistle sound comes from but i honestly don't know. i know this is a pretty general description but does anyone have any idea what this could be?

i'm sorry for the long post and hopefully these aren't going to be too expensive or bad. any help is greatly appreciated.~thanx

I got rid of my hood rattle by wrapping the latch thats on the hood with a piece of duct tape. Only thing is that I have to put a new piece of tape every once in a while since it wears out when you open the hood frequently.

Not too shure about that whistle but my CAI whistles all the time at certain speed/rpms but I had a cone intake before and it never whistled so not shure about your whistle problem.

thanx, i'm glad i'm not alone with that first problem. i think i'll just see which side isn't resting correctly and maybe wedge something in there so it fits snug. i'm not sure yet.

and the other noise, i only heard it when coasting and got rid of it by first trying to gas it a lil, then i just slowed down and it was gone. so i'm really not sure but i'll tell you i don't like it.

also another thing to check is to see if any of your fuse/relay boxes or any other parts are not hitting your hood. When I put my CAI on, one of the boxes was agains the hood, didnt notice any rattling but that could be a possibility

another thing with the hood is you can raise the latch slightly (behind the grille) I have a Carbon Fiber Hood and mine was rattling and thats what fixed it. I raised the hood latch a tiny bit and the hood caught better and stopped rattling
Also check all four bolts in the hood to make sure they are tight, I only put 3 bolts onto my stock hood when I put it back on for the moment, and it rattles occasionally

for the pads just look to see if the pads have enough 'meat' by looking through your wheels or by taking your wheels off. Also it is a possibility that whoever serviced didnt use enough or didnt use the silver goop to stop the squeaks or they didnt use the shims

now the third problem hehe I dont really know what that could be

now you might be worried about these things but none of these are a sign of ANY major problems... every car has its quirks and the Maxima has its fair share of them!
