4th gen auto vs. '03 Hyundai Tiburon

I was just curious about this. Today, I was on the way back from an office trip to Tyler,TX. Me and my co-workers were in a van near downtown Dallas. I happened to see this dark blue 2003 Tiburon merge onto the highway and accelerate quickly up the ramp to an overpass. That sucker looked quick, passing up other cars while on the overpass. I noticed it had dual exhaust at the back, one on each end. I always thought that Hyundai's cars were a joke, but that Tiburon looked like a competitor. Have you guys seen it in action. I was wondering if a 4th gen auto or manual could easily take it. I don't know that stats of the car offhand.

Yhea, I have seen them around. I have to admit the look alright. I especially like the exhaust and some I think have 17" wheels. To me it's still a Hyundai. I know they are not that fast. I took one from a red light very easily two different time. I am not sure if they have two engine choices or if they do which one the car I raced had. I would hope it was the base engine because it was pretty pathetic. You can dress up a Hyundai but it still has a bad name with me.

The one you saw is the GT model (2.7L V6):

181HP @ 6k RPM
177TQ @ 4k RPM

Comes in 4spd auto or 5spd and 6spd manual tranny. I don't know how much it weighs though.

Latest Road and Track has it in a Comparo against 2 other cars, here are the times for the 5spd V-6 model:

0-60= 7.6
1/4 mile= 15.9 @87.6 mph

It will be about even with a 4th gen auto although it has a lower trap mph than the 1/4, if the 5spd driver can drive like a pro. A 5spd 4th gen will walk from it.
