Idle Air Valve Cleaning

FYI
I have a 96SE with approximately 69K miles that was experiencing uneven accereration during light loads. I replaced my fuel filter with no improvment when I first experience uneven acceleration.

The idle speed begain sticking at 1500rpm when returning from higher engine speeds. So...I removed and disassembled the air intake valve and used carb cleaner to clean 'gunk' from valve assembly.

The coils for the valve motor can be separated from the magnet and valve. I cleaned components and re-assembled.

Accerlation is now smooth and idle speeds are stable.

Hope this helps others with similar problems.

I would use "Throttle Body Cleaner" instead of "Carb Cleaner"...

96SE-dsm - You should insert this info in the FAQ section. It's very good information that a lot of people on here could use. Take your credit man.

For sure man, you should do a write up and put it in the FAQ, just as mentioned above so you get your credit. I've read tons of posts which I'm sure this would solve their problem. You would help out the forum ! Good stuff man!

Dude! Thanks for the tip. I have been having the same problem, and was pointing a finger at the air intake valve. Now I know for sure thats what is causing it. THANKS!

Based on the research I did on this site, everyone told me to not to use carb cleaner, and to instead use throttle body cleaner...something
about the chemicals...

GOOD POINT.....

Be careful not to expose O-ring in assembly to the cleaner.
Also, check the Haynes Manual page 6-18 for reference.
