Speed Limiter?
#2
i am pretty sure that almost all cars have a speed limiters... i wouldn't suspect anything diffrent with the max... but you have given me another reason to test my top speed out! i'll let you know.

has everyone/anyone who has gotten rid of this who used the switch had success? check engine lights stay off? i'm thinking about doing this and adding that switch from radio shack...but then again, who needs to go over 116?

ONLY some GXE's are limited. The ONLY way to know for sure if you have one is to go out and try. Believe me, you will know if you have one.
How to disable it is covered in the FAQ.
I've had mine on a switch for about a year now. As long as you only switch it "off" for a few mitues at a time (less than say, 15 minutes), you dont get a CEL.

Mines used to annoy me!
Well its Illegal to take of the speed sensor off your max,but I did it.Ok im going to give you a hint.Under your intake if you look under it by then fender its a sensor right there.You pull it off and no worries about your miles going up because its not going to work lol.Also your speedometer isn't going to work because your speed sensor cant read the speed your going,thus no more fuel cut,and no more limiter.You didn't here this from me.....

It's not illegal to remove the top speed limiter.
The whole point of my mod method is to remove the limiter and keep the odometer, speedometer and cruise control functional. If you unplug the sensor at the transmission, you lose all those functions.
Do you even read threads before you post in them?

Thats nice and shady... good way to screw the next person who buys the car. As we can see, some maxima owners have no morals.

I didn't quite understand if there was or was not a problem with the check engine light staying on, or if there is a chance of damaging the ECU by toggling the speed sensor input to the ECU switch on and off while the car was on. Also, FYI : make sure you have the right kind of speed rated rubber (stock GXEs, for example don't.)

As for damage, I have no idea.
Yes, I have good rubber

The reason the limiter was there in the 1st place is b/c that Maxima came from the factory with T rated tires. If you've replaced your tires with H rated or better, like V,Z,W,Y, then remving your limiter is perfectly OK.
Here's a breakdown of tire speed ratings;
N=87 MPH, 140km/h, Spare Tires
U=124 MPH, 200km/h
P=93 MPH, 150km/h
H=130 MPH, 210km/h, Sport Sedans <-----Maxima, baby!
Q=99 MPH, 160km/h, Winter, LT Tires
V=149 MPH, 240km/h, Sports Cars
R=106 MPH, 170km/h, LT Tires
Z=149 MPH, 240km/h and over, Sports Cars
S=112 MPH, 180km/h
W=168 MPH, 270km/h, Exotic Sport Cars
T=118 MPH, 190km/h
Y=186 MPH, 300km/h, Exotic Sport Cars
