Double Clutching

I know double clutching can be used to an advantage. Isn't it possible to hurt a vehicle when doing this too?

I have never heard of damaging a car by clutching twice. Also it in most cases is unnecessary.

Double clutching was done back in the days when manual trannys didn't have syncros. It was to bring the tranny free spinning gears up to match the speed of the gear you were going into when downshifting.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong here.

correct. i double clutch all the time. it's fun especially when you can double clutch/heel toe. however, if i were doing laps around a track i would use single clutch heel/toe. when done correctly you know it works when the lever slides into the lower gear with absolutely no resistance and the engine sounds smooth.

yeah

yeah you're right. the driver would first have to press the clutch to disengage the gear, then release it, and then press it again to engage the next gear. you can do it, but it is pointless because newer transmissions have the synchros but if it makes you feel faster then go for it.

ps if i knew how to quote i would...
