My Baby is dead..Need help gettin a new car.
I posted on thursday that my baby was hit by a drunk driver while parked in front of my house. I went to the body shop it got towed to on friday and as soon as I walked in he told me she's totaled. So now I'm on the hunt for a new car. Although I'll always love the MAX, I really like the nissan 300ZX TT. I want to start lookin for one but I don't Know too much about Z's. So if anyone knows stuff about this car I would really appreciate some info on them. Like what to look for when buying to mae sure I don't buy somethng that will breakdown in a month. An info on them will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

warning in advance, 300ZX is very hard to find and therefore its quite expensive - try looking at www.cars.com - they have a little seach engine that helps you find one in your area. also when you see the car, get the vin # and look it up on carfax

Are you planning on selling any of your mods from your max?
I will post what I will do with parts this week when I find out what the insurance company is doing with the car

dont bother buying a use TT, because chances are they were driven hard, and the turbos will need replacing soon. save the money and get a regular 300ZX and then do your own turbo kit. you'll get more power this way too

The N/A 300ZX does NOT == 300ZX TT minus turbos. You are probably better off to get a TT even with bad turbos and rebuild/upgrade those.
And I hardly need to add the fact that you will have to get the 5sp.
Get the 5sp!
I drove the 300ZXTT auto and it was a slug

Don't get an NA, get a TT. I've been researching these for a year because I'm getting one next year probably. Check out twinturbo.net - everyone strongly suggests getting a TT and not doing a conversion. Get a '91+ if you can, the '90 is cheaper and easier to find, but had some bugs the later ones don't have. Find one under 80k miles if you can and it should be fine w/ stock turbos if the owner let them cool down before shutting off the engine (w/ turbo timer or idling). These cars were made to be driven hard, so don't worry too much about that, just get an inspection w/ compression test, etc.

and i know there were a bunch of internal differences that would need to be made to do the TT conversion

Thanks alot for all the info I greatly appreciate it. I found a 1993 TT for sale in my area from a private owner. It has 57000 miles on it and looks imacualate. But the guy has alot of parts in it and says its a 12 sec car. Now, do you guys think it would be ok or if he raced it alot will I have alot of problems with it. I am going to bring my mechanic to look at it but I would like some of your opinions. Thanks again for all the help.
P.S. I will only accept 5spd

I, too, would recommend the turbo version.
But be forwarned. I read an article (Road &Track)
about used 300ZXs which stated that the turbo versions
have reliability issues with transmissions (more power = more
problems, I guess).
Oh well, that could be your first upgrade

YOU have to get a TT. Whatever you do, try not to get 90 model. They have a couple of more probs than any other. Second, i would take it to a Z specialist. For around $100, they do a 3 hour inspection and tell you whats wrong from top to bottom. You may already have a mechaniq, but a specialist is required simply because he know what goes wrong with these cars, and will save you a lot of problems in the lomg run. I personally am looking for a Z, but they are a little expensive and a VR4 is very tempting as well. Whatever you do, no matter how clean a car looks you never rush into anything. The seller is always going to be eager to sell a car so dont fall for his fancy talk. Take it to a specialist and you should be fine, and make sure he looks at the frame and body to make sure there was never any accidents. Hope this helps.

dont get an NA 300zx, it is very slow, a buddy of mine has one and my auto max destroys it. even if you were to put a good twin turbo on ur looking at spending 6-8 grand, just get a TT with a 5speed and mod it from there, they are quick car and depending on how beat up it was and how good of a driver you are they can easily run anywhere from 13.8-very low 14's
