What year is your car?
What was it you baught to put into your A/C?
Auto or Manual Climate control?
Have you checked the fuses?
Lets just start there.
Most likely your out of refrigerent. Why you lost it all is yet another issue.

1) You might have a blown fuse. An inexpensive thing to do yourself, but if you really don't want to, just take it to a local shop. Probably $20 max.
or
2) You probably just need some more "freon" or R-134. Take it to a local shop that does A/C systems (Yellowpages) and have them evacuate the system and recharge it. Shop around, its about $70 to $100 here in NC. They will also check for fuses if you want to do both ($5 for mine).

That's good. That means its probably not the compressor (which can be and expensive fix).

While we're on the subject, I also have a problem with my A/C. I feel that on highway speeds, when I rev the car to 4800+rpms, in that range, my a/c seems to turn weaken, then actually turn off, as if it needed to be recharged or cooled or something.
If I leave the A/C on around town, it's ice cold. But on the highway, esp. w/ spirited driving, the air actually gets quite warmish and humid. Does anyone recongnize these symptoms and know a solution?

i read somewhere the ac shuts down after a certain rpm or mph, can't remember. this was to protect the compressor, i may be wrong.

If you floor it your AC will shut off. This is in order to give back lost HP from the blowers.

are you certain about this? I remember I've floored it many times in my auto, and the a/c air remained cold.
