What Is the Problem With My Tach?

My tachometer doesn't work right any more. The majority of the time the needle will not go past about 2k. What's the deal?

I had the same problem, eventually I just replaced the gauge cluster. Found it at a junk yard www.car-parts.com .

hope this helps...

Is your car old? Or have you been playing with the dash?

at least yours works and goes to 2 k rpm, mine just chills at zero HAHA, and just some advice I would recommend you going to the juckyard personaly and plug in the gauge before you buy it, cause I have bought two off of ebay and both times the same thing happens, the needle still stays at zero. Good luck, let me know if you find some one that has more than 1 for sale and that every gauge works.

Thanks
Brandon

maybe its not your gauge, it might be the harness or some wiring problem?

No

The friggin' thing just doesn't work right. I just got the car about a week and a half ago, and have yet to mess with anything in the interior.

Maybe you can take it back and ask them to help you get it fixed.

Sup Brandon,
1) Will I have to replace the entire gague cluster?
2) How many miles are reported on the ones you bought?
3) How much did you pay? I think I've found an Infinity equivilant but its real pricy.
Thanks bro,
Walter

I wish, but no. "As is, No Warranty" they were a$$holes when I tried to get help with my A/C compressor. Plus they're about 4hrs away.

In case you think I got hosed, even with all these complications I still got a good deal on the car.

I live in North Carolina, but bought the car in Georgia. Unfortunately, Georgia Lemon Laws do not cover used cars.

It could be just dirty electrical connections. I would suggest that you remove the cluster (very easy to do). Disconnect the electrical connectors on the back of the cluster and spray them with CRC Electronics Cleaner. You can get this stuff at NAPA for about $5.

Cool, I'll try that. Just curious... about how well does your car autocross? I used to have a '91 CRX Si that I'd take out on the course, even belonged to a local club. But the Max seems like it'd be a little big and sluggish as compared to my go-kart like CRX.

Scroll on down to STS class. Those Integra's hate me! A lot of the courses we run are set up by Corvette guys (wide gates and big sweepers) so the Maxima does well.

Nice, I'm glad to see that I'm still going to be able to have some fun out on the track. BTW do you happen to know the "Novice" is in the Focus. The one that was only a second and some change off the FTD!

Novice class is a little different then all of the others. Times in Novice are multiplied by a factor called PAX. It is a factor that is determined by the SCCA that is supposed to put all novices on a level playing field regardless of what kind of car they drive. The Focus's best time was multiplied by 0.779 to get his PAX time of 30.759. Notice that the 2nd place Miata's multiplier is 0.812.

The Miata had a quicker raw time, but his PAX time was slower.

Wow, I'm really out of the loop. When did they start doing this?

It's been at least 5-6 years.
