How difficult to replace clutch?
My clutch has been slipping for some time now. I just recieved my ACT clutch yesterday. I had gone around getting some prices on installs. I've gotten price ranging from $350-500.... I really don't have that much laying around it'll take me like a month to save up for this, but I know it needs to be replaced soon. I have tons of tools to do this myself. I was reading through the haynes repair manual, and it doesn't seem that difficult. Just looks like it'll take a good weekend.
For the guys that have done this themselves, How long did it take you also what problems did you run into installing ?

changing the clutch is practically 90% of the process to change an auto to a manual...u have to take off front wheels...take off both driveshaft...take off intake and battery cuz they will be in the way...take off tranny...take off clutch...replace clutch...put tranny back (this step alone can range from 30 min to 3 hours)...put drive shaft back on...put wheels back on...put intake and battery back on...bleed the clutch...ur done...

How do you know your clutch is slipping? I have been driving 5spd for quite sometime now and never know what "slipping" really is.

it is about 70% of the swap, b/c doing the clutch lines was a pain in conversion.
do it youself, I just changed my clutch,flywheel, and transmission (to vlsd 5spd
) a couple weeks ago... did it in one night. I have more pics if they would help at all but probably not, its nothing craaazy hard, just time consuming, if its your first time, plan it taking a whole day, or maybe two

you do not have to bleed the clutch lines for a clutch change, the slave cylinder unbolts from the transmission with two bolts, and is a closed system, no fluid gets out.
it is about 70% of the swap, b/c doing the clutch lines was a pain in conversion.

tvn_1010: I know its slipping cause when I shift into 3rd,4th,5th. Punch the gas. It take a second for my clutch to engage. My RPM's will rise then fall back to were there suppost to be at.
hlh0501: Yeah this is my first time replacing a clutch on a FWD car. All my previous cars were RWD. Changing them out looks to be a lot easier. I'm really wanting to do this myself. I have a spare car, so if it takes longer then I expect. I won't be stranded. I just need to clean out the garage so I have some room to play.
The manual I have don't make it look so hard mainly due to all the pics. Gotta love Haynes!!

If you have an extra ride, I say clean out the garage and go for it. That is, if you have the tools and an extra body or two. Maybe by the time I replace my clutch I'll have enough tools and knowhow to undertake the task myself....with the trusty haynes by your side, why not? 
You sure your clutch isn't just chattering a bit / you're gassing a bit too much on the shifts? I always thought the clutch slippage test was to have it in 5th at about 40mph or so (foot totally off the clutch), to get it low into the powerband...floor the gas, and then if the RPMs spin up without speed picking up, thats slippage. I think that test is even DBM-approved.

You sure your clutch isn't just chattering a bit / you're gassing a bit too much on the shifts? I always thought the clutch slippage test was to have it in 5th at about 40mph or so (foot totally off the clutch), to get it low into the powerband...floor the gas, and then if the RPMs spin up without speed picking up, thats slippage. I think that test is even DBM-approved.

I'm pretty sure its on its way out the door. I really don't shift hard at all. When I'm in lets say 4th, i'd be doing about 60-65mph. I'm at like 3000rpm, So I don't shift and just push on the gas and my rpm will just rise then come back down, THEN my clutch will engage. I checked out all the other possiblities. It has to be my clutch. I got my weekend project now.( Clean out the garage )

It is a whole transmission, so no it was not difficult - time consuming just to take the old one off (i also swapped the flywheel - so the clutch and everything came off too), but its just bolting up a new tranny... i will have pics for you in a day or so... email me if i forget.
