My first time at the drag strip.

Today (6/23/02) I went to the track with fellow Maxima owners.
Here is the link.
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....hreadid=125219

Well I did a total of 4 runs. It was in the afternoon, and it was hot out side, like 90 degrees or higher. Here is what the slip says that they gave at the end of each run.

1st run:

Reaction time: .511
I1: 2.662
I2: 7.121
I3: 10.770
MPH (I3): 67.733
I4 : 13.835

ET: 16.567
MPH: 84.426
__________________________________________________ _____

2nd Run:

Reaction time: .173
I1: 2.484
I2: 6.936
I3: 10.581
MPH (I3): 67.488
I4 : 13.643

ET: 16.364
MPH: 85.736
__________________________________________________ _____

3rd Run:

Reaction time: ???
I1: ????
I2: ????
I3: ????
MPH (I3): 67.465
I4 : 13.589

ET: 16.312
MPH: 85.565

The print out on this run was not clear, looks like the printer had a paper jam.

4th Run:
Dial-In: 16.40
Reaction time: .995
I1: 2.499
I2: 6.848
I3: 10.465

I4 : 13.514

ET: 16.242

Well these are my times, tell me what you think.

I think you should be running about 1.3-1.8 seconds faster on the average

You are 5-speed right? How come you can't break out of the 16's? Either the track you went at is at the verge of space, you just learned stick yesterday, or your car needs a MAJOR tune up.

Yeah my Max is a 5spd. It was really hot outside. I dont think that many people were not running fast times due to heat. I think that the track was like over 100 degrees.

i was just at the track the other day with my friends spec v who runs 15.1-15.2's in the cooler Arizona weather and with the track temp at 136 he ran a 15.8 at best and just once all his other runs were in the 16's. the heat just drains the cars!

No keep in mind you were running palmdale it is about 3000ft elevation, the times are a second off. Brian V ran a 15.3 there and a 14.3 in Pomona. The mph also suffers you just deduct 1 sec. and that is what you run. Also it was about 125 degrees in Palmdale which will make your times suffer, go run Pomona, Fontana, or Carlsbad you will run low 15s, also your 0-60 is bad, you need to improve that 1-2 shift.

I have the sunburn to prove it. OUCH! To everyone in my position, vitamin E oil helps wonders. Ugh. Now I gotta drive back to the bay area in the morning!

It must have been the weather...because I ran at Palmdale last Wednesday with my best run being a 16.39 at 84mph.
PR CAI, bad knock sensor, auto. With your 5 speed and some cool weather you should be easily into the 15s at palmdale. Try going on Wednesday when theres not too many people and the since its at night the weather is great.

with the heat as it was you should be getting traction like a ****...your 60ft should be way better...then down the track itll hurt you cause of how hot it was.
but dude....with intake and exhaust ...forget the 15s you should be running 14s...many have posted 14.2s and 14.3s with those mods

What is the ideal time for 60ft times? Also when I was launching, I was getting a whole bunch of wheel hop. Does wheel hop affect your 60ft times?

Also what is a good RPM to launch at? I was launching between 2000-2500 RPM's?

Wheel hop definately affects your 60 ft. Do you have adjustable struts? If you do you should stiffen them up at the track.

No, I have stock struts. I lowered the front tire pressure to 40 PSI from 44 PSI. Also I had a full interior and some stuff in the trunk.

the heat could have been a big problem depending on your car, and dont see anything wrong with the rpm u are launching from, if i were you i would take it to another track, or just when its not so hot. THe average 5speed with your mods should be like mid 14's

2nd run reaction time??

You're second run reaction time is the fastest i've ever seen.
Reaction time of .173 is pretty damn low. At least your launch was ok

When I get my Maxima.org sticker I'm going back agian.

If Donald is correct, then my fastest time was 15.2. I think that is not bad for my first time.

A reaction time of .173 is a red light. A perfect light is .500.

Actually, some tracks are different. I've been at two different tracks and one a perfect R/T would be a .500, and the other a perfect R/T would be .000. My best R/T's are .683, and .059 respectivly.

You are correct and the big problem is to make sure which is which before the eliminations start.
I assumed FSTMAX was at a .500 track because his first R/T was .511 which is excellent if it was. However, when he responded he said he waited for the green and if that was the case then its a .000 track because if you see the green before you hit it usually results in a slower reaction time. I hit it just when the 3rd yellow lights and I pull low .5xx's most of the time.

You might want to invest on some AGX's...that will help with the wheel hop. Also, that tire pressure is pretty high. You probably couldnt get any traction because of that high tire pressure.

I'm thinking of getting Koni adjustable shocks.

Your tire pressure is extremely high, and you're probably launching w/ the rpms too high. I know a lot of people run crazy low tire pressures. I run mine at 32 psi in the front and launch at just shy of 2k. I get some wheel spin which is fine. If you're hopping you're not moving and wasting energy. Try launching around 1800 and note how the car performs. IF it bogs down, launch w/ higher rpms, if it spins a lot or hops a lot, lower the launch rpm. I haven't mentioned clutch feathering because it is real bad on a clutch. Try the different rpms and see if that works for you. IF it doesn't, do a search on launching, or clutch feathering. Good luck.
Btw, my best in my 95 SE w/ 132,000 miles is 14.8 w/ a 60 foot of 2.2X Get your 60 foots down and you'll do a lot better. Enjoy.
