why doesnt the speed become equal??

i am an automatic maxima. i hate how you 5speeds are so much faster than i, although i must admit my car ran a 15.6 wich is pretty good, but i really want to break into 14's and that is usually hard with an auto. i was thinking about the VB mod and i was told it makes the auto tranny have quicker shifts so its just like a manual. but how come the auto with VBmod is still no where near where the 5speed is if it makes the auto shift just as well. i know theres like a 84lb weight difference but the math still doesnt add up right.. im confused??????????

It has to do with the fact that auto's only have 4 speeds (actually 3 + TC lockout) and manuals have 5. It's all about the physics, but since I hate math I'll let someone else explain it to you.

I agree with Jeff 100%...

But because I know this area , no the VB mod will not improve your times at all. It simply strengthens your transmission. If you want you auto to shift as quickly as a 5spd, you need a complete transmission rebuild from Level10 (or Don if he does them). It normally costs around $4k, over twice the price of a 5spd conversion, which is why many people don't have them. However I do believe Don did, and keep in mind he is one of if not the fastest Maximas around.

for one, the gear ratio on an auto is taller compared to a 5spd, resulting in slower revs, there is a thread that shows the gear ratios for autos and manuals. also, autos are not as efficient as manuals. the torque conveter robs power... about 17%-20% while a 5spd loses about 12%-15%... mind you these are not exact, but close. so, along with the extra weigh of an auto, the gear ratio and efficiency are responsible for the decrease performance.

Well if you're going to drag your Maxima then it's not a waste of money because it strengthens your extremely weak Valve Body. No, it won't help your times, but it'll help keep your car running.
