Grand Prix Vs Max.....

The other day I raced a 98+ Grand Prix GT, and whooped him ! Arent the GTs supposed to be somewhat fast? I know about the GTP with the charger, but I thought the GTs had SOME power. BTW all I have is K&N, and Remus catback.....

it wouldnt matter if u were stick or auto, either way u would kill a grandprix GT. my mom has one (2000) and i believe it has 200hp 225tq, it picks up well of the line but any 4th or 5th gen maxima would kill it in a quarter mile run. i drove my moms car around before i bought my max and the max is way faster especially at higher speeds, that car has nothing on the highway! and im auto, but good kill, just watch out for those GTP's they are much faster

well the GTP is a whole different story....but the quality is still bull crap...my bro-inlaw bought his 00 gt fully loaded with leather and everything brand new, less then 2 yrs old it over heats constantly...he was gonna trade it in earlier this year for a rav4 and the dealer was only gonna give him $3k for it..hehehe

Hey, my mom has a 2k1 Grand Prix GTP...and it REALLY moves...it would easily rape my max...though i have a 97 5 speed with a stillen intake...i havent raced it too much...but i know there is a lot that i would beat with it...they really have some pick-up and keep moving through 120...havent taken it past that...dont want to wreck mommy's car.. But, point of my story was that the GTP's are very fast...the GT's however, are very slow...and with a little work, the gtp's can easily be quicker...just my .02...

K&N and Catback would make the maxima..... what?... about 215-220 hp?? Is that an over-estimate?

A friend of mine has a 98 GTP, it does have some power but, he is on first name basis with his service dept!! He has all sorts of probs....

My car is an Auto, and I believe the other was too.

I raced a late model GP GT last weekend; it was no contest. I stepped off the line easily and got on it through first and by the time I popped into second he was trailing a couple of cars back. Halfway through second he gave up.

I have driven a couple of GTPs. They are quick right off the line (and feel pretty torquey) but once going, the motor doesn't exhibit the smooth pull to redline that the Maxima's VQ does. I think a GTP might be able to keep up with me off the line (even though I'm a 5-speed) but the max should pull as speeds rise. An auto max would likely get beaten pretty bad off the line.

The GTP's are pretty quick though, I think they are the same as the GT but with a supercharger.

the GT has 200hp/225tq with a 3.8L V6
the GTP has 240hp/280tq with a 3.8L supercharged V6

the GTP's can easily be modified to over 300hp, with smaller sized supercharger pulleys, intake, exhaust, u bend removal, etc.

only thing is that manual is not an option.

stock GTP's run high 14's to low 15's. i think average is about 15.0-15.1

i was almost going to buy one myself. but the used ones happened to be in crappy condition, so i got a 99 max es 5spd instead..
