Look at this remote... it has a strange button...

Look at this remote I an thinking about buying on eBay. I am in need of a remote for my Maxima, and this one is in really good shape. It has the same FCC ID as my remote, but the panic button on the bottom looks strange. Instead of looking like a horn, it looks like something else weird. Does anyone else's remote have a button that has an image like that on the panic button? Thanks.

Oh, here's the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=1839658898

It's a light button. I think it turns on the lights inside. Probably from an overseas model that did not some with an alarm.

I thought it kind of represented a dome light... but then I thought that was dumb, because I just thought that ALL Maximas would at least have the panic feature. That's weird.

So... what do you do if you want your car to "panic?"

No if u hold down the unlock button the windows roll down. The other button is for the trunk and the one with the light is for panic. When u hold it your lights start flashing and the siren goes off...

My bad...

Thats off an Infiniti J30. Its cool when you push a button it will beep to let you know you pressed the button. It is a panic button if you hold it in. If you just press it-it will turn your headlights on to help you find your car in a parking lot.

The remote isn't off of a Maxima/I30. I know this because I have a remote just like that in my desk.

So do you think that our Nissans have the lights-on feature pre-installed, and all that is required to work it is that FOB?

I don't know, I never tried to reprogram it for my car.. I don't know how to do that either. But I got my remote from a J30spec edition. Since its all tied into the alarm system I guess it could.. I really dont know, I'm just speculating about what it can or cannot not do on a maxi-30...

Well I hope that's the case... swcello if you get it PLEASE let me know if the light function works. I really would like that feature, but if it's non-functional then there's no point.

If this helps:

The original remote on my 95 has the dome light as the third button. I got a spare remote from the dealer when I bought my car which has the speaker as the third button.

I just tried both remotes:
Old remote (w/ light) switches dome light on/off
Old remote (w/ speaker) sounds the panic

I'll be darned ... the remotes function differently.

I can confirm this. The keyless remotes that came with the car have a speaker type icon, and it sets off the alarm.

The new remote I bought from ebay has the dome light feature

If you have that light icon as a 3rd button, you must have your dome light set on DOOR. This is the only way the dome light will turn on when all of the doors are locked.
