Need pricing opinion on a 1999 Maxima SE Limited Edition

I have been searching for a Maxima, and came across this:

NISSAN MAXIMA SE '99, 45K mi. - Auto, Blk, auto, Bose, snrf, alarm, traction, ABS, front & side airbags, heated leather, alloys, $16,599.

This guy was coming off a lease and figured it would be better to sell it instead of giving it back since he has gone over the miles. The tires need to be replaced, and the engine sounds a little clinky but otherwise everything seems to be in running order. He has gone down to $15,600 in price. I haven't checked Carfax or anything yet, but I wanted to know if 15,600 is actually a fair price to be paying?

The other option is for me to get a 2000 maxima where the extent of the options is a sunroof and cd player for about the same price...any help would be great

TIA....

A little steep. Probably below "book" price, however. For comparison, I got my '99 SE 5-speed without leather, heated, traction, side airbags, or ABS and 70K miles for only 11,800. I got a good deal I think. So is an automatic, leather, side airbags, ABS, and 25K less miles worth $3800 to you? It wouldn't be to me. If I were in the market for that car, I wouldn't go over $15,000, tops. Closer to 14. But that's just me...and it certainly doesn't seem like a total rip-off if the car is flawless.

Yeah sounds alright to me, I would see if you could get it under 15,000 as well. Just try to talk him down and if not, then he can always give it back to the dealer...but it sounds like he doesn't want none of that.

sounds like a good price to me. that is what you have to expect people to ask, but it has leather and good miles so i thinik the pricing is fair. just try to talk him down as much as possible

i just picked up a 99 maxima es in very good condition last week. it has 54000km or 34000 miles and i got it for about $21000 or US$14,000 with taxes and fees included.
it has every option except for leather, sunroof, and spoiler. and its a 5spd.
just something to compare with...i think i got a very good deal.

I have almost the exact same car (no heated seats, ABS, or traction control).. 'course I don't need 'em down here in TX. However I have only 35K on mine and would be extremely happy to be able to get 15K for it. I think you should talk him down.

how much DID you get the car for?
winter in jersey gets prettty harsh so the traction control abs and heated seat help tremendously.

what is fishy is that he had the battery belts, wipers, and installed some air filter that never needs to be changed...on a leased car...

he said it would be more worth his while to sell the car rather than return it

I say try to talk it down to at least 15k. Just remember don't get it unless you like everything about it. Personally if you're going to spend 15k+ on a car I say you get a new one.

I got my 99 SE with 77k miles, fully loaded for 12.

I bought it new in August '99 for 22K, I'm just saying that if I wanted to sell it tomorrow, I'd take 15K. BTW, yeah in Jersey I could see how those extra options would be nice to have.
