CLUTCH Price

My car has 89k miles, the clutch pedal got really stiff, and switching gears very notchy. My friend's 5speed Maxima with less miles feels like a totally different car. Would replacing the clutch help with these problems?
Also anyone knows what is the aproximate price for the stock clutch replacement?
Thanks.

clutch prices can greatly vary depending on what you want and where you go. i've got quotes from anywhere from $450 to $900 for OEM replacement. i bought an OEM clutch from Nissan through where i work (at wholesale) for $148, and i plan to have a tech. @ work put it in for $250. just try several tranmission places and make sure you ask what kind of clutch they use... some of them can be pretty crappy. and if you know a mechanic, try to work something out on the side, you can save alot of $$ that way.

My friend's Porsche mechanic says the stiffening of the clutch pedal is one of the signs of a worn-out clutch. His Boxster's pedal became very stiff and a few weeks later the clutch was slipping badly. Sure enough the clutch was worn.

I had several quotes from independent Nissan shops in the past and they were around $450 parts+labor; resurfacing flywheel was an additional $30 or so.

guys, he said he wanted a stock clutch...your best bet (being i doubt u have any connections with nissan) is to contact the numerous nissan dealers on this website taht will give u great prices and work from there...just to name a few (tustin nissan and Courtesy)...also, maximaracer had a pressure plate or something which he was selling brand new at a great price...not sure if u need that but just giving u a few resources to work with...just check beginning of maxima.org and look through the links....

I just put an ACT clutch and Muller lightened flywheel for about $950 installed. . . Although I did have a fellow org member install it for a really good price.

I would look at having the dealer replace the clutch with an OEM one. I went to a local "transmission shop" and they messed up my car. They put a clutch that their "books" stated would fit Maximas from the first gen. to the current. When I took my car in to my Nissan dealer for other work they found that this bargain clutch was damaging the housing. I eventually had the correct parts installed/replaced and after a while I got my money back. And the Nissan dealers installation of the correct clutch was $75 less than the "transmission shop" originally charged me. (About $675). Moral of my story is that the bargain shops aren't always a bargain.
