chrome colored door handles - can they be changed?

I have a 98 Maxima, and I want it to look like the SE on the outside...

I've already got the spoiler, the SE rims, and the body colored grill, now all I need is body colored door handles. Well, and body colored window moldings, but that can't be changed.

My question is this... if I were to go to a salvage yard and purchase the door handles off of an SE maxima, would I be able to put them on my car? Is that even possible? Are they removable and installable?

It's very easy man!
Use the tape to cover up! It works great and you could find this info on Maxima FAQ section!
Hope it helps!

please search the forum cuz I saw the info about this thread not too long ago.
The guy said instead of painting the handle you simply use the color tape. I've heard it works well with Max...

Alright, I did a search last night after I couldn't find it in the FAQ. I think that tape looks kinda' cheap looking (no more than black electrical tape or something like it) and I might just leave my handles chrome. Plus, the tape is sure to peel off eventually, on a hot day.

Do what I did. Go to a sticker shop or a "riceboy" shop and buy some Vinyl sticker tape. It's very easy to use is molds over the door handle and looks like paint. Can't tell at all.

PS- I'll post a pic when I get a chance.

Go to your local Homedepot and you will find it!
Use the search function and you'll see tons of info on how to make this stuff on your own and save $$$$
LOL! it's sooooo freaking easy to make, too!
Good luck to you and post some pix when u r done!

Anytime DTR Maxima!
Just go to HomeDepot and pick up a sheet of Gutter guard(like a buck or 2 a piece) and couple of plastic tie downs.
If you don't have the metal cutting scissor then buy one( AND return it when you're done...shhhhhh)
First put the Gutter metal sheet onto the grill and use the magic pen to draw the lines then use the metal cutting scissor to cut it.
Make sure you wear the gloves or you'll be sorry
Oh! don't try to cut too tight as it will scratch up your bumper everytime you hit the bumps.
Make sure use the search function to get more detail.
It's very easy to make and looks darn good, too!
GOOD LUCK!!!!!

Just get some vinyl and stick it over your door handles..

I did this on my 98.. the vinyl is carbon fiber immitation and my car is black.. I could have gotten some black vinyl as well but I had the carbon fiber left over and decided to try it.... surprisingly it stuck VERY well... it has been on my car for over 5 months now, through a rough winter and all sorts of temperatures, the vinyl is not showing any signs of coming off....

i'll see if i can find a pic for you..but this is what i think is much easier, cheaper and better to do as opposed to getting the door handles painted or swapping them with the real painted door handles... u can always take the vinyl off and it will cost you 2-3$ and will look exactly the same.

if the image doesn't come up.. right click on it and go to "show picture". that should do it.

For those that painted them, did you sand of the chrome first? What grit sand paper did you use if you did?

NYCe MaXiMa - I think that looks really cool! I think I'll do that. I like the carbon fiber. Where do you get the carbon fiber vinyl stuff?

Also, what did you do about the fugly chrome around the windows?

Looks like electrical tape around the windows to me...

Thats what i did, it works well.

What i did was run an exacto knife over the electrical tape between the rubber and the chrome to cut off the excess, makes it look cleaner.

but when you're going around the window with tape, doesn't it bunch up or wrinkle when you go around the corners/curves?

The tape that i used called trim brite is pliable and stretchy so it doesn't bunch around corners.

Nope, electrical tape is vinyl, it stretches. The first time i did it i used some thin tape and it shrunk after a few days, but now i have some heavier tape that works well.

Its like a 30 minute job at worst so you have nothing to loose
