Are stock accord coupes and cl's that slow..?

After coming back from Ocean City this morning with a few friends. One of the guys with us has a v-6 Accord coupe, '99 or '00. Anyway, we both are going in the same direction and we jump on the highway and he guns it. The highway we were on was a nice long straightaway for about mile 2 1/2 to 3 miles long. Anyway, he notices that i'm not running with him so he lets off the throttle. I start to pull up on him to get even sot that we can go at it. While pulling up on him, hear comes a 3.0 acura (it was either a 97 or 98). I guess he must have seen my friend gun it while coming on to the highway. So now a three lane highway you have three cars and no traffic with no cops in site.
They must have thought i wouldn't or couldn't run with them. My boy in the accord and the guy in the acura had about a car and half jump on me when they punched it. We were all doing about 55mph. To sum it i jumped out and got even with them around 85, by the time i hit 105, which was not long afterwards they gave up. No cops to be found. My question is, are our cars that damn good, or were they just scared? My friend doesn't have any mods, and the cl looked stock as well.

I felt like a state trooper because of the closing speed. This is the first time i've taken my max past 100, and it seemed like it could defintely go a lot faster by the way it was pulling.

Doesn't sound too surprising, is your car a 5 speed, or auto? Ask your friend if he gave up at a certain speed, he'll probably know better than us. Sounds about right

But what about the cl that got in it as well. Do they both have the same engine. Because my man has a v6 accord ex. I just spoke with him and he said he shut it down after he got to 90 because i kept pulling away.

The intake plus the y pipe i plan on putting on before the summer is out should make my max sprints to 100 feel almost effortless. Damn a love this car. (My last one was a Protege!!! )

It might seem faster because his car is slower, or maybe he has a '02 cl. But the cl I raced was a joke. His i30 must be in terrible shape or it just seems slower because of the size compared to his 2 door coupe.

the v6 in the accord is pathetic.

it's not made to be a "powerful, sporty" v6.. more like a "economical, wannabe" v6..

the only reason they even bother offering a v6 with the accord is because every other car in it's class has one so they have to.

the stock CL's are pretty weak too.. the type-S ones are pretty quick, but for the pricetag it's still weak.

and i'm in the honda camp (i own a 96 integra) .. so don't say i'm biased :P

well it's a 99 3.0 cl...and i've driven his i30 and to me it's faster than the 3.0cl..i've driven both...it's probably jus in his head thinking that a 2door car is faster than his big 4dr
