which manual..haynes or chilton??
which manual..haynes or chilton??
i was just wondering which manual is better to get, the haynes or chilton? or are they the same? what is the difference between the two,if any (one have more pictures, diagrams, better step by step instructions, etc)
definately chilton
haynes manual is a piece of ****. they usually don't account for changes in model years and sometimes the directions are way way off. i'd definately go with chilton...haynes would be good for beginners though..
get both... i remember when i bought the car and was curious about the same thing... I found out (if i remember correctly) that both books cover maximas in good detail, but the chilton covers brakes better the the haynes manual (again, if i remember correctly)

I purchased the Haynes manual yesterday at AutoZone for $16.00. A quick look through its pages was all I needed to feel confident that my money had been well spent.
So far the instructions have been perspicuous and accurate, making possible a number of improvements to the car that would have been otherwise painstakingly tedious or not attempted at all. The large number of illustrations are definitely facilitative to the process by which one familiarizes oneself with an automobiles componential locations, funtioning, and maintenance. I feel certain that the manual will more than pay for itself by allowing me to perform various maintenance procedures at home that would have in the past been carried out by a payed mechanic.
By the way, how much did you pay for the Nissan service manual?

The aftermarket books are suitable for most owners, and are a good value. The Haynes book is superior to the Chilton by a small margin in every category: content, accuracy, photography, paper quality, and price. The advanced owner-mechanic may be willing to pay for the Nissan book. In some ways the aftermarket and factory books complement each other, and the ideal case would be to have both the Nissan and Haynes manuals.

Worth it though IMO.

When you ask 'which manual..haynes or chilton??', are you asking which you should buy or which is better? To answer which to buy, the answer it BOTH! For under $20 each, there's nothing to think about. If you are asking which is better, I can honestly say the Haynes. By far. I own all three (Haynes, Chilton's, F.S.M.) and I have done sooo many things myself on my car and have used all three extensively. In installing the SuperCharger, for example, I found myself getting way more help from the Haynes than the other two (although all three saved the day on more than one occasion). For instance, look at my Appendix for the SC install. I have 12 pages of Chilton's sited, 23 of Haynes and 13 of the F.S.M.
