I am on a low budget...so I am looking for "cheap and easy" upgrades...Is it possible to reprogram the ECU using software on a laptop? I am wondering because I found a Parallel Port in the front right of the car (inside) behind a piece of plastic.

 

Nope, and even if you could, you would have to know what you were doing, and need a dyno to do it. JWT and Gforce are the only options right now...

The port you probably saw is for running diagnostics on the car.

 

Can I run those tests?

 

You can get the codes out of your ECU, but you need a special machine to run diagnostics, you may be able to pick up a generic OBD II reader and check it with that, but it won't tell you the whole story, nor will you be able to see any information, usually only dealers and shops have those kinds of machines, and they charge ya $$$ to run a test, which is pretty much pointless unless your car is not running right.

 

Jetchip also has an ECU pkg. DOn't think they are using JWT or GFOrce for the proramming.
