My 95 5sp just hit 170k today. I just came back from a long trip to Atlantic City and noticed that one of the exhaust system brackets underneath the car has come loose. I think this has caused the exhaust system to bounce up and down on bumps in the road, causing the flexible part of the exhaust to loosen up and become "tattered" a bit.
Anyhow my questions are:
-If I want to the upgrade the entire exhaust system - would i buy something that covers the length of the system from the motor all the way to the muffler (if so - how much am I looking at?)?
-or can I upgrade just part of the exhaust system? I'm not sure what a Y-pipe replaces...or what a cat back replaces...from looking at the Haynes manual it seems like there are 6 or so components to the exhaust - from the motor you have the PIPE, FlEXIBLE SECTION, CATALYTIC CONVERTER - ANOTHER PIPE and the MUFFLER...
I'm basically looking for some education on exhaust systems.
Any advice?
Thanks in advance.

From the exhaust headers you have:
Y-pipe
Catalytic converter
Cat-back exhaust (B-pipe, Muffler)
Y-pipes cost $200-400+, Cat-backs cost $400+ for pre-fab.
Custom work depends on materials used, type of bends, and labor charges.
It really depends on how long you plan to keep the car to decide what you want to spend.

Most Expensive scenario:
cattman y = $450
cat = $225
exhaust = $550
$1225 for complete exhaust system (worse case)

None if you buy all parts that were made to fit a Maxima.Originally posted by Pappa Grande

I have:
Cattman Y: $420ish
WSP Testpipe: $35
Apexi WS: $275 (normally $450ish, I got a deal).
So, $1000 should give you an all new exhaust, using top quality stuff.
I have two Apexi WS exhausts in stock. $395.95 plus actual shipping. Shipping is roughly $45 give or take. My email is bryan@berktuning.com
