Can a MAFS code be as a result of a vaccuum leak?

All help is appreciated
Basically, my car f'ing SUCKS right now...I think I have a vaccuum leak as my car will shut off when put under load when cold (by "load" I mean I put the car in drive with the foot on the brake).

When my car warms up, this becomes less of a problem, but it is still there. In the last two days, I keep receiving a MAFS code, but, I replaced my MAFS a little while ago...maybe its the wiring for the MAFS? I'll have to check that one out...In any case...the question remains:

Will a vaccuum leak cause a MAFS code to appear????

THANKS ALL!

I don't think a leak is going to set off a MAF code. Was the MAF sensor you put in new or used? If it was used, you might take another look at it.

Also, did you clean the MAF? Try spraying some TB cleaner on the element. If you've got some dirt on it, it may not be giving correct readings back to the ECU. Make sure you use TB cleaner and not Carb cleaner!!!!

Used MAFS...still under warranty! But, I have to verify that the part
is failing...I received MAFS code before which is why I got the used
one...

Not sure about spraying the MAFS -- has anyone tried that? Is that a safe move?

Thanks for the help!

I clean MAF's all the time this way when I clean throttle body's. Never had one fail.

If your throwing the MAF code, then your MAF is bad. Pretty simple, you said it's used, but under warranty - GO BACK AND GET ANOTHER ONE!

If your other one failed and now this one is too, I would suspect other things as well. I don't think a vacuum leak will cause the code but a leak upstream of the MAF may trip the code. I don't know what kind of intake you have after the MAF but make sure that there is no way that air can enter the intake path after the MAF. Also, check the connection at the MAF for corrosion, loose wiring, that kinda stuff. Good luck.
