OK guys, someone in here said something recently about a 4th gen being faster than the 5th gens...I almost laughed when I read it, but before I make any assumptions, is there any truth in this statement at all??

my friend has a 2001 SE 5 Speed and I have a 4th Gen GXE 5 Speed. All I have to say is he cant take me.

His mods: Stillen Pop Charger

Mine: Pop Charger + Cat Back + B Pipe + Y Pipe.

I beat him when he had just gotten his and I didnt even have a y-pipe installed. Now that his car is broken in and I have my y-pipe installed, I dont think I'll have a problem putting him in his place.

However, I believe the 2002+'s pushing 255 horses will smoke the **** outa me.

it is possible

The 95 SE 5speed tested faster than the 2000 SE 5speed in motor trend. Yes it is true they are just magazine numbers, but I also own a 2k2 6 speed and my 95 aint much slower. So it is very likely that the 2k and 2k1 and the 95 are all very close in speed.

i am under the assumption that 00/01's even with their extra power are just as quick as 4th gens due to their heavier weight. i have seen 5-speed 00/01's pull the same numbers as 5-speed 4th gens. same goes for auto trans. 02/03's are a different story...stock 6-speeds have no trouble pulling a 14 second range pass.

That was probably my comment you saw. Almost laughing at the comment shows exactly how much you know. Take a look at the 1/4 mile times for similarly modded 4th gens vs. 5th gens then get back to me.

Any 5th gens running 14.2s? nope. 14.3s? nope. 14.4s? nope. Still laughing?

This is not including 2k2s.

I swear this is the F'N truth...

...a friend (since grade school, mind you) is a salesman at a Nissan Dealership, (ie.discount abuse..) and we have raced Max vs Max before.
NOTE: My mods on a 99SE are NA bolt ons

Races all on the same stretch run close to 1/4 mile

vs 2000 maxSE auto....99SE by 1.5 to 2 car lengths (2runs)

vs 2001 maxSE 5spd....99SE by 0.5 to even (2runs)

vs 2002 maxSE auto...2002 maxSE by auto by .75 to 1 car lengths (3runs) we will Go again next Thurs.

vs 2002 Altima 3.5auto...99SE by 1 car length, the last run back was even until we saw another test driver coming our way.

I've been tempted to lease out a 2002 or 2003 for a year but why really bother when I love "tuning" around in my 4th Gen. I think I can wait for a US Skyline.

Actually MaddMax ran 14.3-14.4@96-97mph in his 2000 5 speed with and intake and Y-pipe. I think he sold his car and doesn't post here anymore.

Cool. Maybe there is a decent 5th gen dragger out there afterall. I recall the name MaddMax but no specifics.

I believe the next quickest is 00-01 is running 14.7s.

Your MAx is tight, plus you already have the best looking Style Max out their the 97-99 SE.

Madmax2k ran 14.38 at 97 with just y pipe and cai on stock tires. Unfortunately, my best is only mid 14.7s with Y and SI (he's a better driver!) all on hot days.

From what I've seen of similarly modded cars, the 2k/2k1s appear to be faster than the 97-99 and on par with the lighter 95/96. Also, it seems that the pre-2ks benefit more from the full slate of bolt-on mods than the 2k/2k1s.

In a top speed run from a roll, the 2k/2k1 has the advantage. In my experience, a pre-2k's best chance is from 60 mph if you catch the 2k/2k1 driver in 3rd (not good if he drops to 2nd). If a 2k/2k1 gets you to roll from 80, I'm pretty certain that a comparably modded pre-2k will slowly get walked.

He's still got it until his lease is up.

But, he rarely shows up here anymore. Too busy playing with those turbo dodges!

He's run numerous 14.5/14.6. I'm sure there are others running faster than that. 2k2damax I believe has run 14.6s (and I know 14.7s) in his cali spec.

We'll see how I do now that I swapped to the CAI and have RT cat. I'm getting the udp put back on (that's one install I don't want to deal with) and going with the b-pipe. I can't imagine that I won't hit 14.5s at least on a good day.
