Brakes

I had the same problem. Changed to Nissan Brake pads and the problem has gone away. What type are you using?

brakes

Ask the person who installed them. Most likely, unless you had them put on at the dealership, they are NOT Nissan pads, though.

I think I gave about $60 for the Nissan pads, while the "Other brand" that I bought at Autozone costed around $40.

I havent replaced them since I had the year. This was two years ago. I have no idea what the previous owner did. Did the dealer put the pads on or did you?

I did.

Just a side note, I'm not so sure spraying your brakes with water is a good idea. Instant rust. Brake cleaner would work MUCH better.

Two years and it's not time for new pads? If you have gotten two year's use out of a set of pads, I would replace them with OEM (nissan) pads now.

No, not difficult. But if you have never worked on brakes before, I would either:
1. Take it somewhere and have it done. (NOT the dealership)

or

2. Get a friend who is experienced with brake systems to show you the ropes. Next time, you could go at it alone!

You REALLY don't want your brakes to fail.

One thing that struck me a strange about the maxima's brakes were the fact that the piston on the caliper had to be ROTATED to be retracted. Anyhow, I almost never figured out why the darn piston wouldn't compress. I know this was the case on the rear brakes. Maybe the front ones were the old-fashioned type that you simply compress.

My brakes squeak like crazy as well - especially when I hit it lightly. The dealership put Nissan pads on (or so they say) when I bought it but it still does it. What might I do besides take it to the shop to reslove the annoying problem?

I change my brakes pads (OEM) with hardware kit about 2 weeks ago, no squeaks. Not sure if I really needed to change the hardware kit or not but I did it anyways just to be sure. It was very easy to do, check out www.motorvate.ca for detailed info on how to change pads and rotors.

I also think warped rotors can cause squeaks, if you change out your pads go ahead and take rotors off and get them resurfaced just to make sure.

Non-OEM pads will always squeak; Nissan uses multiple clips and a wire thing that hooks into the pads to keep everything from squeaking or groaning. Most other pads do not have the holes for the wire thing. Also, if anti-squeal isn't liberally applied when new pads are put in, the brakes will squeak.

I've done a LOT of brake jobs; disk brakes are super easy, especially the fronts!

edit: can't type
