Heads Up Display

I am interested in getting a Heads Up Display for my max... I've done some searching but no one seems to have done it before. The general concensus seems to be that a special windsheild is required, but can anyone confirm?

I have a friend with a mid 90s Altima and she's got the HUD, so I figure it's already in the Nissan bloodline....

Any info would be greatly appreciated: experiences, companies, thoughts, etc.

Thanks

Jeff

There is a HUD, system that is sold on summit racing. I don't recall the name, but if you look at their page in SCC you'll see them.. pretty cool for 300 bucks.

I was thinking, my Haynes manual shows circuit diagrams for 3rd gens with HUD unit. If you look at the HUD circuit diagram, you'll see that it basically ties in to regular circuits (speed, illumination, etc). What are the chances you might be able to get a 3rd gen HUD and try it out?

If they made HUDs for 3rd gen that is ...

early 3rd gen GXES (89-91) has the option of the HUD, it was only possible for those with the digital dash also

as for taking it and using it with your 4th gen, you'd be much better off with an aftermarket unit that has instructions and is made for universal use

Hmmm... I'm liking the "Sports VSD" found here:

http://www.defi-shop.com/sports/spotsfrm.htm

The little tach guage is awsome.... looks almost like an arcade game or something! Unfortunately it looks like it only displays Km/Hr for the speed setting... I emailed the address on there to see if they have one for MPH.

Does anyone know how the frequency of our speed pulse, or even have any idea what this means?

"The speedometer can be used only with vehicles equipped with engine
control units (ECUs) utilizing 2, 4, 8 and 16 pulse per revolution speed
sensors. It cannot be used on vehicles without a speed sensor or ECU"

utilizing 2, 4, 8 and 16 pulse per revolution
Im not that well informed about such things, but to me if feels like the Maximas are 6 pulses per revoltion...in other words, everytime a cylinder fires, it produces a pulse, therefore there are 6 pulses per revolution. I dont think they will support 6 pulses...the increments 2..4..8..16 are 2^1, 2^2, 2^3, 2^4 respectivly. This probably is a design feature/flaw...
