You need the sunshade, switch & wires in order to hook this u. Here is the write up i used to install mine:

I suppose you can. You would have to attach a black cloth or some other material on the side closest to the front of the car. It's pretty dark already so you may not need to do this.

I take it a decent amount of cutting would be needed on the rear deck for the this to fit..

Nope just need a i35 rear deck cover.if your inquiring about a part you should research a little.

You cannot use a Maxima rear deck with this sunshade. It can only be used in combination with an Infiniti i30 or i35 rear deck. The Infiniti deck sits a little higher, allowing access for the sunshade. Also the Infiniti rear deck already has the cut-out for the sunshade. If you have any other questions feel free to ask.

(He is talking about the same write up i used to install the one i have in my car. You should take a look @ it. It is pretty straight forward & explains everything in great detail.)
