2001 Maxima SE Headlight Retrofit with OEM Ballasts/Bulbs
Hi guys, its been a damn while. My Maxima bit the dust finally and I decided to take my favorite headlights off and let someone else enjoy them. As everyone knows, the stock 5th gen headlights are as bright as a couple of candles. When I switched back to the stock headlights, I couldn't even tell if they were on or not by looking at the road. Even one of these HID headlights is bright as both stock headlights.
I built these myself about 4 years ago, they have been the most reliable headlight setup that I've ever had - but unfortunately the right headlight stopped working recently. It's either the ballast or the bulb, I started investigating but got side tracked so the buyer will have to take care of this. Right headlight therefore doesn't work but the left one still fires up perfectly.
Parts details with original purchase price:
2001 Maxima SE headlights ($200)
Morimoto Mini D2S 2.0 Projectors ($100)
E46 Shrouds ($30)
OEM Philips D2S bulbs from dealer ($140)
OEM Matsushiita/Panasonic Gen 6 Ballasts ($120)
2 Days of hard work and fine tuning (Priceless)
The tabs are all there, no cracks whatsoever. No condensation issues. Some slight bubbling on the plastic inside the headlight right below the lens but this obviously doesn't affect functionality. Overall just needs a good polish and you'd have a sweet set of headlights.
Connections were soldered properly with diodes for low/high beams. This is a plug and play setup - 3 input wires connect to the stock headlight socket. No - you do not need a wiring harness for this, all I did was double the fuse rating just to make sure it didn't blow. Stock wiring is more than adequate for these puppies otherwise.
Cost about $600 to build 4 years ago. Asking $150 USD or best reasonable offer. I'd like to see these go to a good home. I'll eat the cost of shipping since its from Canada (Toronto) which means FREE SHIPPING via USPS. Happy Holidays guys! =]
