I re-discovered this recently in a box of parts from my old 2003 Maxima SE 6MT. It's the original MAF Sensor for the car, and there's not a thing wrong with it.

Back when the MAF was starting to be reported as a common point of failure, we were getting heart-attacks to discover Nissan wanted $400 for the replacement part. And then someone got clever, theorizing that the only difference between the $100 part for the 2001 model and the 2002-2003 model was a $1 thermistor from Honeywell. (They were right. Shame on Nissan.) So thinking I could experiment with this solution, while retaining a functioning OEM spare, I did exactly that. And then I forgot about it.

Since then, aftermarket MAF sensors have emerged, and that's certainly a third option. However, if you're interested in getting the OEM sensor with only 50k miles on it, for direct replacement or backup, shoot me a PM.
