Aluminum Dash Kit

I am trying to decide if I want to add an aluminum dash kit on my 01 AE. What do you guys think? Is the kit expensive? How difficult is the installation? Thanks

I installed mine myself. If you dont think you can do it, DONT ! If you screw up, the adhesive is so strong, you wont be able to fix it ! You must have a steady hand, and know what you're doing. I have pictures on my homepage !

A thing to note:

There are generally two types of dash kits. The flat one and the molded/3d one.

Molded is usually more expensive as it looks cleaner and covers the entire part it's trying to spruce up.

Flat pieces are usually cheaper since it just covers the top part (flat). They look good as well but comparing them both is personal preference.

Another thing to note is the # of pieces included in the kit. They vary from manufacturer to manufacturer (even if it's for the same exact car).

Lastly, real aluminum dash kits tend to be more expensive than the synthetic brushed aluminum kits you see most of the time.

Another point. I was going to buy a Real Brushed Aluminum kit, but it was way to shiny for my taste. Thats why I went with Synthetic Brushed Aluminum. Also molded kits usually have a lot less pieces . A good combination would be to buy a molded kit, and a flat kit, and use the pieces you want. That would cost a lot of $$ though.

Molded looks better to me, because it looks like it came with the car. Also, I would steer clear of the kits with too many pieces. It looks stupid if you have like 35 pieces all over the car. Personally, I prefer kits that are more like 10-20 pieces or so.

I'm going with a wood kit myself, but I haven't seen any molded brushed aluminum kits. I don't think there are any out there at this point.

Hey kloogy,

Does your kit have the pieces that go over the sunroof button etc.?

No it doesnt. I think there is only one dealer that makes a kit with those. It was about 150.00 more for that kit !

30 something. It has every piece imaginable, except for the ssunroof controls...

It was hard to find one for a 2K2 with Navi. Now there are more kits out, but when I got it, it was the only one.
