Door Dings

Some how, some way, I (and the previous owner) have managed to keep my car door ding free. I am always amazed at this. Sure, I have a couple of paint chip, but for a 2 year old car, that's not bad.

Q: Are the rest of you pretty successful with keeping your car ding free?

ding free, yes. but i've been hit and run twice. once in the parking garage at work where someone left a dent in the front drivers side fender (along a crease). and someone hit my rear bumper, gouging out the plastic for about two inches - in a parking lot.
no witnesses either time.

Yhea the door dings are under control. I cant really notice any.

Paint chips around the front end, however, are a totally different issue. Not too much you can do when your going down a highway and need to pass a salt truck laying a nice fresh coat of boulder sized salt accross all four lanes

Yup. I always either park on a end-spot where I can hug the outer line or I park FAR away from everyone else.

Not one door-ding since I bought my Max almost 3 years ago!

On my Sterling mist Y2K I got one door ding which was my own fault for parking next to this lowered ricer. On my 2K2 none so far and no paint issues on either.

I can't even emphasize how much the side molding helps with door dings, they take the blunt of it when you get hit, and because it's plastic you usually get a chip out of the paint, but no ding. I dunno which is better, but I am VERY happy my maxima has side molding. My accord coupe I had before this didn't, and I had one ding that was MASSIVE, it was about $300 to get fixed, couldn't be done went paintless dent removal because of how it was hit, basically destoryed my rear quarter panel.

Oh well, it's all in the past now and is now someone else's problem to drive them crazy

in 3 years..

I've had one ding.. paid $72 and the Dent Doctor made it all a bad dream. It was a really nasty ding they buffed it as well, so I cant see where the paint was scuffed.. worth every penny..

Does a $6000.00 accident count as a ding?

3 door dings. sometimes it doesnt matter how you park... but moreso WHERE you park. in big cities, such as chicago and new york, people dont really care about hitting your car, etc. as long as they can squeeze into that parking space.

Ya, I park smartly, but I am still on a college campus, 3 small nicks plus the usual paint chips on the hood.

#1 dont park next to 2 door cars, thats always asking for trouble
#2 park next to an expensive car, the owner is prolly gonna be just as careful as you are not to mess up his car by hitting anything
#3 park a few spots further away if necessary, walking an extra few feet isnt gonna hurt any
#4, if possible, grab an end spot

im dingless

i'll have to agree with that....either that FIRST spot or all the way in the end, away from the world. i just started working and it's a pretty parking lot, so avoiding parking near idiots takes a good couple of minutes before i'm satisfied.

YA!.. ok, I do what everyone else does here...

1. park far away from others.. what's the big deal about walking 10 more feet? I have friends who ***** and moan about parking too far just for a ding. Well, all I can say is WHO PAID FOR THE CAR?!??! NOT YOU!

2. I use the end spots also.. and hug that line tight.

3. I have the 3m film on my car. Except for the rear bumper and the door guards. Sounds stupid, but I'm going to get the door guards with the 3M film on it. What the hell right? It would make me feel better.

4. I live in NYC/Long Island. When I travel into Queens or NYC, I use my 'commuter' car and leave the Max home. Still get teased by my friends about this, but I don't care. I once saw an old lady trying to parallel park into a space in Queens. Her front bumper was PUSHED INTO this poor Maxima's rear bumper. And to make it worse..she still wasn't fully parked! forget that...

door dings

man... some strange reason... pick-up trucks and caravans... and anything higher then my max are drawn to park next to me... even if i park on the other side of the parking lot...

just found a ding last week.

Still fresh in memory my first ding... luckily, my insurance covered it as a "collision".

But now in NyC... bumpers are getting paint stripped by people playing bumper cars when they park...
oh agony!

or those god forsaken soccer mom land barge SUV's.

First of all, even if they dont' ding the doors lugging all their purse, stroller, etc. bull **** out of the thing, then the stinking slimy little rug rats go bounding out and don't give a da=n about ANYTHING.

Have any of you used one of the ding removal specialty services? What did you think? How much did it cost? Would you do it again?

Ding King?

Anyone tried this, or know of someone who had?
Last I saw 'round here, everyone was waiting for someone else to try it first.

Dings and things

I know where I got my 3M clear bra, they do door dings. They have this one guy who specializes in this stuff. I'm on Long Island, NY but I don't know where you guys are. Anyways, his speciality are Porches. Let me know if you want to contact this dude.

when it was 14 days old

This happened at a graduation party in Queens, NY. We parked far away too. It happened exactly when it was 2 weeks old. It is 7 weeks old today..plus a day since it's past 12 now. I posted this before but now since there's a section on door dings, I may as well post it again.
