j/p but you'll hand the lexus his ****.
Don't underestimate those IS300's. I had a bad launch a few nights ago, and he took right off - hardly caught him at the finish, so close we had to do a few more the next day, where I had only like 1/5 - 2 cars on him. They are quick and have good balance, and all have LSD, so use caution while racing these guys. Their numbers are much lower, and actually weigh a few pounds more, but I think the balance of the car and their ability to hook up gives them an advantage at the start.
The aftermarket market for those cars are amazing. My friend just ordered a SRT intake and HKS titanium/carbon fiber exhaust, together claiming 25hp @ wheels.

My friend just got a new IS300 about three weeks before I got my new Max! His: Auto, Mine: 6 speed. His: about $5,000 more than mine. He is also a Sportbike maniac. Well, I did kick his a$$ and the best part? I am "just" a girrrrrrrrrl! It will be some time before his ego recovers.
I test drove a 5-speed IS300 right before test driving the 6-speed Max. The difference is night and day. The Maxima would destroy the IS in a race. The IS300 had great steering feel and balance, but felt like it was towing a trailer compared to the Maxima!
I also believe that a '00-01 Max 5-speed would have no problem beating a 5-speed IS.

I agree with most everything thats been said in this thread. I test drove a 5spd IS300 and while the handling/feel of the car was light years ahead of the Maxima, it was extemely underpowered. You know what, I think us Max owners have just become spoiled with all that hp/tq we have....us 2K2 guys anyway.
