K&N Air Filter Help

Hi! I am about to reach 15,000 miles on my Max and was planning on getting a K&N drop-in filter. While reading up on it on the web, I came across this site that did a comparison between the AMSOIL Air filter and the K&N. (I can't remember the site anymore.)

The site said that testing had shown that the K&N filters didn't do well in keeping dirt from getting through. They said that the AMSOIL foam Air filter was superior and did not let any dirt through.

Now I'm a bit confused as to which is better. Seems like everyone here uses teh K&N air filter, but that article made it seem like the AMSOIL one was better. Any ideas??

Thanks!

We base the decision more on the air flow!

I can attest to the Amsoil filters dirt stopping power. I could not believe how much dirt was in front of the filter. It does alot better job at letting air through than K&N would have you believe. However, the Amsoil filters are in no way shape or form lifetime filters. You'll notice after a few washings that the small particles of the foam will start to come off in your sink. You have to wash these filters more frequently since they do such a good job at collecting dirt. However again, what's the use of stopping dirt if parts of the filter itself are going into the engine?

I found these pictures on another forum. #9 test dust, which is 1-30 microns in size, was sucked through a Napa Gold (Wix) paper air filter, the K&N gauze filter and the Amsoil foam filter. See for yourself at http://www.mdvsynthetics.com/maxima/filters.htmthen consider the Amsoil filter at full retail is only $32.30+shipping. If you email me, I'll send you the org member price for it if you're interested.

So the K&N worked better than the paper filter??? That goes contrary to everything else I've read. I use K&N myself but always thought that paper filtered a bit better????
