Rear Brakes Wear

I just went in for my 30000 miles service and was told my rear brakes need replacement. My front brake has about75percentage pad left. I have not had the front brakes serviced previously. Do the rest of you have any experience with rear pads wearing first? My car is a 2000 SE.

The rears on my 2000 also were down to about 25% at 25000 miles while the fronts were still very good. Otherwise my brake system was fine. I put new pads in, no big deal. I think which ever one wears first will vary with the type of driving and driving style. I've had the same thing happen on other cars. As long as the brakes work well otherwise, I don't think its that unusual.

I took my car into the dealer at 28k to fix the brake jutter TSB and they told me that my rears had 15% left and fronts had 55% left. I asked the technician why the rears wore down faster than the fronts. He said the brake pressure was 50%fronts/50%rears on the Maximas. Most cars are 60/40...that's why the fronts are larger. Since Nissan didn't compensate for the Max's 50/50 brake pressure by increasing the size of the rear rotors and pads, they wear down faster. It's probably another marketing tactic for us consumers to pay more on tune-ups and repairs...just my .02!

I talked with my cousin, who is a Disrtrict manger for Nissian in NorCal. His tech service guys think the rear pad wear is due to improperly adjusted parking brake cable.

Lowered 2K1

Victor...I have a 2K1 5 speed as well, and I have to say that picture of your lowwered ride looks damned nice. I never really considered lowering mine since I live in Northeast and don't want a harsh ride. But let me ask you, how is the ride and what springs did you use? And are those stock tires on the OEM rims? Thanks.
