looks like a bare bones GXE. you should be looking at about $1500 to $2500 less than that.

That's a stripped SE. Mileage is good. $1500 less and it is a good deal.

hey man, i'm in the Atlanta Area Too, and i've looked at EVERY single maxima in this city, i was in the process of looking for a 5th gen a couple weeks ago. Sorry to tell you man, but that car is sold already. I went up to Gwinnett to see it, had an appointment with David Ahn and everything, but it sold the day i was supposed to go see him. David had no way of contacting me to tell me that the car we had made an appointment to see, had been sold. Bottom line.. ALOT of the cars on Autotrader have already been solding depending on how good dealers are about updating their internet sales. I eventually found a 2000 SE with 50,000 miles on it, bose, leather, meridian, climate control, and sunroof for 16,400 from this high school principal in Wilmington NC. I'm going up to NC on Thurs to go pick up my new max!! i can't wait!

Since this turned into a discussion about good deals...

...I thought I would add another data point. I just bought (about 3 weeks ago) a 2000 SE from a dealer. I feel like I got a really good deal, so I thought I would let people know in case they're in the market for the same car.

2000 Maxima SE
Every option - except heated seats/heated mirrors
5-speed manual
Inside and outside in perfect condition, the leather on the seats are in perfect condition, it looks brand new.
35,400 miles.
The only problem with the interior or exterior was a small bubble in the dash on the passenger side (about the size of a dime), my local Nissan dealer is installing a brand new dash under warranty.

$17,500.

Beware...most of these late model used Maximas were previous rental cars. The rental agencies wholesale them at dealer auctions.

That's a good point about wholesaled rental cars, it's always important to know what you are buying.

My 2000 SE was a trade-in for a new Infiniti G35.
The previous owner obviously took extremely good care of the Max. It's obvious from the look of the interior and my mechanic confirmed it was in perfect mechanical shape.

My 2k GXE was a rental car. Nothing wrong with that though. At the time I got a really good deal on it. Paint was in bad shape, IMO, but the interior looked really good. When I got the car, it drove perfectly, but less than 2000 miles later, I did have severe rotor warpage (scary to apply brakes at 60+ mph).

Infintiblast: I would recommend looking privately for a Max. The dealers markup these cars too much, especially when they know you are looking for a 5 speed. I remember not too long ago, the Nissan dealers in my area were "blowing out" new 2K1 5-speed GXEs and SEs (stripped of course) for $19K-$20K. These were new cars with no mileage. That was a good anount below invioce. Not to much demand for stripped leff overs! I'm kind od of ****ed I did't buy one when I had the chance. I have seen several full loaded 2K 5-speeds advertised for $17-$18K in the NY tri-state area. These are private sellers. After negotiating, these cars should go for $1k less. I always prefer to buy my used cars privately because you aren't paying the $3-4k in dealer markup. But don't take me literally, because I know of people who have gotten really nice cars at dealers for great prices so the bottom line is you really need to be a smart shopper. Good luck!
