Speed Sensitive steering....

I love my 2002 SE, but I notice that the steering still feels pretty loose at high speeds(especially cornering) I was wondering if anyone else has this problem and if there is a way to get tighter steering without putting on larger wheels and low profile tires. Much appreciated.

I have thought about this too, and would like less power applied to my steering at higher speed. (in fact, there IS less power steering applied at higher speeds, I just want less)

the only thing I can think of is to use a larger pulley (if it will fit) on the steering pump. That way you get less PS assist, but it will happen at all speeds I think. And I don't know how that would mess up the variable-assist part.

Anyone else have ideas on how to limit PS assist at moderate and higher speeds?

Remember that the '02 Maxima has Torque-sensitive steering... i.e. if you floor it making a turn from a stop, the steering will feel really tight. Unless you're revving the engine when you make the turn at high speeds, the steering will definitely feel loose. I think the TL has Speed-sensitive steering.. when I test drove it, the wheel was really tight at higher speeds of around 50-65.

I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the '02s have Speed sensitive steering as opposed to Torque sensitive. The TLs are nice, but the Maxima is so such nicer.

Maybe have the dealer take a look. I'm not sure if your speed sensitive steering was broken it would throw a code.
