Hayden Tranny Cooler Install Question

I have had my 01 Max for a few months now and want to install a tranny cooler. I have just purchased the Hayden 677 transmission cooler (stacked plate version) after much research on Mid-Duty Tranny Coolers. I have had a couple trannys fail on me in other cars and I want to do as much as possible to keep this one going as long as possible. I installed the fin type on an old Minivan of mine with great ease and have seen plenty of posts on those types.

Anyways, I am trying to see if anyone has any experience with the stacked plate tranny cooler install.

I plan on following Greg Pretes Mod post about installing on a 4th gen. I have my digital camera ready so I am hoping I can put something like that to help out all my 5th Gen posse.

2nd Question: Does anyone know if installing an aftermarket cooler will void the factory warranty?

Thanks for the help! Just joined the forum, glad to be aboard.

I used the same instructions that you have indicated. You should be fine in that regard although I would recommend checking the how-to section for a 5th gen application before you go through your own documentation process. Don't know about a stacked type: I went with the basic Hayden unit.

I installed the stack type B&M Supercooler in my 5th gen. Followed Greg Prete's instructions, they work fine. Just follow the directions, and be prepared to get a little cut up, some sharp edges there. Get extra hose, you'll need about 8 feet total. Also when you connect the return line to the tranny, the hose might bend sharply a little, thus slowing the flow of fluid from the cooler back to the tranny, which is a bad thing. Give the hose enough slack (use wire ties to bind it to the underbody in a manner where there's plenty of free hose going to the tranny).

I've seen some guys install the cooler with the hoses attached at the bottom of the cooler, and I think this is a bad idea. The fluid should go down into the cooler, then back to the tranny, not be forced up into the cooler, then drain out of the tranny.
