Mods vs. new 2k2 SE

I happened to be at the dealer today for some stuff, and I was looking at the 2k2 they have left. Would it be better to get a brand new 2k2, or spend the money doing some really nice Mods on my 2k SE. My car is stock right now. For the money for the new 2k2, I could really bump up my car, I figure easily surpassing the 255hp the 2k2 comes with.

So that leads to my second question. What mods should I start with, say spending $1,500.

In short, you can easily surpass a stock 2k2 with a modded 2K, for $1500 or less. For more deatil: starting getting acquainted w/ "search"...

HINT: I'd start with the word "mod" or "mods" in the search box, search titles only, and use 1 year or less time frame. You will have multiple returns with various answers to your question.

Will you leave the 2K2 stock? If not, then you are both taking a bath on the trade-in and risking sections of your warranty by modifying the 2K2. I say keep the 2K and modify it. You can always get boost and be happy.

If you will leave the 2K2 stock, then you're comparing a modified 2K with high-risk warranty or a stock 2K2 with pristine warranty. Tough call, but I'd probably never in my life trade a car for another car of the same model, make, and body style. If you're going to trade....TRADE UP!

Y-Pipe, CAI, UDP, Flywheel should get you started just fine.

Only keep the 2K if you have the $ to supercharge it. I have run out of cost effective mods on my 2K and while it is pretty fast, I think the 2K2 6 speed is faster.

I disagree.

A CAI, exhuast, and a Zex kit (65 shot) will put a 2k ahead of a 2k2, at less than $1500. Just ask me-I have the 2k dyno numbers to prove it: 230HP/243T. Most stock 2k2 run around 209HP/222T on the dyno.

I found it weird also, 14 FWHP from the same car is quite a lot. Your dyno may read higher then my dyno or maybe your car just has a little bit of extra power, I am betting it may be a combo of both. It would be intersting to see how close are cars would be if we both dynoed at the same place . BTW I just added a UDP too Once I put my Y-pipe on I am hopeing too see 230 FWHP. Ohh yeah it's weird how your car traps so low with all that power.

i havent ran it at the track with the current set up. my highest trap was 99 if i remember correctly. im not planning on going back to the track ever again. too many problems with the tranny etc. i think i am going to get a UDP and call it quits after a new set of rims. the new 6 speed tranny is way to delicate! im gonna buy a old 5.0 and have that for the track. ill dyno again soon. i might go to a different place to see if there is a difference at all. ill post results whenever i do it. i still have to break in my new clutch for the 3rd time.

yep! all the damn tranny problems have been from the clutch. i had one replaced at 3k miles and again at 15k miles. i dont know what the deal is with the clutchs they have been giving me. the current one feels sooooooooooo much better than the other 2. i think that they may have been faulty clutchs and my driving . ill see if this ones feels good after a few thousand miles and see what i want to do with the car. nissan told me that they arent going to fix my tranny or anything tranny related again. so i have to watch it! dont want to buy a new 6 speed tranny, clutch and flywheel !

You took the words out of my mouth.

Don't get me wrong. I have a 2K and at this point, the only thing I have left to do is SC it. I would do that before buying a 2K2. But if I had a 2K with no mods, I would try to find a preowned 6 speed in a few months. I will never buy new from a dealer again.

Well I think I am going to keep my 2000 SE. I like the interior of the 2000 more than the new 2k2, as well as the hood line. I think the older 5th gen lights and grill is more aggressive (keep in mind this is just my opinion).

I figure for some money I could get the GD at www.leatherseats.com as well as putting in some basic mods to up the HP a little.

Thanks for all the input, some of you have some great cars! (from what I could see on your homepages)

The guys question was about how a 2k could be modded to keep up with a "stock" 2k2, for less than $1500. Because those were his options w/ the $: upgrade to a stock 2k2, or do mods on his 2k. You don't have a stock 2k2; on the otherhand I do have a modded 2k that will outrun a stock 2k2.
