The painful plight of a VQ35DE driver....

C'mon guys I know you are with me. We all share the same plight of not enough mods! Where is our promised 'it'll be shipped in two weeks' Y-pipe? Where is that JWT ECU? Where is anything other than an intake and pulleys (besides nitrous) to make us go faster????

I do get a good feelings when I do know that people like Ethan with his Y2K header/Y-pipe conversion and Stevew with his frankencar intake are working hard for us. What do we have to do to get some respect, or more importantly some mods? Sorry, just had to vent.

Unfortunately for us, but something to consider is, this is a new engine in an old, 2yr, platform. Given the fact that there are not many companies that support Nissan and the ones that do are making mods for all the previous year cars and taking their time with the Max.

Take Stillen for instance the Altima came out 1st. and they got some mods going for it quick because Nissan sent them one early. They got to poke and prod the new motor and get ready for the car that got them started, the Z. There hasn’t been a new Z for 6yrs. and they are going to concentrate on it now because it will generate higher profit margins. People that drive brand new Z’s make money and are going to demand things for the car. We have the Z to thank for all the mods from them to begin with.

Just think you get to enjoy the warranty a little longer. I know yours has already been wrecked and I feel for you. But maybe someone else has been more unfortunate than you and totaled theirs. I’m looking for a wrecked one to get the intake manifold, y-pipe and anything else I can think of out of it. I’ll send the manifold out to be extrude honed cut the precats out of the y-pipe. There also has to be something we can do with the ECU.

It is my hope that next years Max doesn’t make me sorry about the 02 I just bought in May and not buy the 99 I had when its lease was up. You never know they may want to make the Max into Nissans’ version of the Q45, unlikely but…

Go out and make them yourself. If you can afford a 2k2 then you should have enough resources to make your own mods. Hell I had to make my own for my 87 maxima. Or get everyone to pool some $$ together and drop a deposit down at some companys. I garantee that they will begin making parts if 5th gen owners send R&D $$ in.

I do get a good feelings when I do know that people like Ethan with his Y2K header/Y-pipe conversion and Stevew with his frankencar intake are working hard for us. What do we have to do to get some respect, or more importantly some mods? Sorry, just had to vent.
What more mods do you need? Bodykit, wings, or camshafts, headwork, higher/lower compression pistons? Outside of the normal cone filter relocation kit, Y pipe or headers, exhaust and UDP, the only thing left is an ECU reprogramming. Why not find someone that works with microproccessors for a living, then send him your ECU to see if he can crack the code. Then once its cracked find a dyno and begin testing different parameters. Or just buy a stand alone engine management and tune it from there. All I see is people that don't take time to develope things and would rather order out of a catalog. I remember when Emax was talking about converting to a fed manifold + y pipe on his 2k2 long before he did it.

What is stopping you from removing your engine and having it worked on? You can order custom pistons from JE, Arias, Ross and get the stock cams reground at crower or ISKY. Or you can drop the car off at a shop and pay $6k for a full turbocharger install with a stand alone engine management.

Someone should get the KWT cams and do a write up on them and do a before and after dyno . I want do cams but it's a bit much for me to try before I see some solid info on them.

Look for a whole pulley setup soon and parts for the whole 3.5 L motor. Companys will have a ton of stuff available for this engine because it is in some many cars. The 350Z and G35 ecu's are probably 99% the same, so when stillen or JWT developes a ecu for these cars they will become available for us too. This time next year I should have a good 260 FWHP NA

Stillen has a y-pipe for the 2002 Altima but not the Maxima. The little brother Altima is overtaking the 2K2 Maxima in performance parts. who would have thunk.

Yeah but so what? The fastest VQ35DE isn't in an Altima. It's under the hood of a Maxima.

MY Maxima.

Nope. The fastest VQ35DE will be under the hood of the 350Z and is currently under the hood of the G35.

Show me ANY 350Z (other than the GT3 Race car 3572cc's) or any G35 or any Altima that has run faster than me or put more hp on the ground.

You stated that the fastest 3.5 VQ is under the Maxima. I simply stated that you are wrong because a stock Maxima is not as powerful as a stock 350Z ( 280 hp) or a stock G35 (260 hp).
The Max also has FWD to deal with while the other two are RWD which gives them an advantage over the Maxima. If you are modded, that is different, but you never said that you were modded.

I can't read your mind (which is a good thing ). How much are you puttin' down to the ground?

And I said 'MY' Maxima which would imply that it is modded. You didn't have to read my mind. Everything is in the apprpriate section. Dyno and Timesheets.
