I took a drive up in the snow this weekend and a car was nice enough to fling a little rock at my windshield so now I have a couple chips in it. Isn't their some sort of chip repair you can do yourself?

Isn't that a pisser? Yeah, you can find chip repair kits at most auto parts stores. They really don't "repair" chip(s), per se. The kits glue the layers of chipped glass laminate together and stabilize the surrounding area, so a chip does not turn into a 4' long crack. It's easy to do, it does not take too long to complete, and it is not expensive. I think I spent $5-$7 for my kit. It's the same product/procedure that the "professionals" use. It'll last until the car dies, or until you get tired of looking at the chips and replace the glass altogether! These kits do not hide chips! You'll still be able to see them plain as day...

Thanks for the info. Thats a shame it doesn't hide the chips. I guess it's time to check the insurance coverage.

Shop around on your replacement glass! The glass companies are rapists, especially if they know your insurance company is gonna pay. I called three shops to replace my glass, and I got three quotes: $200 and change, $300 and change, and $400 and change. All for the exact same replacement glass. Most of these guys will come change it out where you work, or at your house too, for your convenience. Don't let'em stick it to you...

Check your insurance. Some companies will repair the glass for free so they avoid the cost of replacing your windshield in the future. I had State Farm when I was under my parents' policy, and they totally covered repairing chips with no deductible.
