DVD Navigation and 350Z

My friend that works at Nissan corporate just stopped by my office in a black pre-production Z350. NICE! Anyway, the Navigation is DVD and not CD.

This has been known for some time, as all of the new Infiniti's also have the DVD navi, I have confirmed that the 04 max will have the DVD navi also.

Not sure, but none of the original "navi-cars" had a DVD based system...BMW, Mercedes, Volvo, etc. all had CD-Based systems. I think part of the problem was the lack of a company that was manuf. the DVD Disc, I believe that all of the above mentioned companies essentially use the same map software. If you look at the regions for the BMW, Mercedes, and even I think the Clarion unit, pretty much have the same states, etc in the respective region CDs as does Nissan.

I've seen pics of the Navi on the 350Z and it looks like the same screen controls as the CD based Maxima Navi. As Scott said, they are probably using similar software, and just putting all the info on one disc.

I think a lot of you guys are very misled. DVD based Navigation DOES NOT MEAN , you can watch Dvd's on you're Navi. It just means all the regions are on one disc. I have all the regoins, and so do many other 2K2 owners, so why would I want this ? I can deal with changing a CD every 3 states ....
