Now this is a noteworthy Kill...

On my way over to my friend's house tonight I ran a '93 Cobra. Yes, it was a REAL one. I have owned two Mustangs and a Thunderbird so I know my Fords. I just sold my previous car Monday. It was a white '98 Cobra. Look at my homepage and you'll see lots of info on it.

Anyway, back to the race. We took off from about 30-35 MPH or so, both at the same time. I pulled him pretty hard, so I decided to give him the benefit of the doubt and let off and start again. So we did it again and the result was the same. Yes, he downshifted. Yes, my almost stock '02 pulled him. BAD. I let off at 70 MPH when I had a solid two and a half carlengths on him.

Afterwards his passenger asked me, "Damn, is that stock!?!" I said, "Basically, just an intake." He was like, "Don't those have 240 HP?". "Nope, 255 stock." "That thing is fast!" "Yeah, not bad for a four door"

The driver wouldn't even look over. I think he was having issues after getting spanked by a 4 door sedan That's the second 5.0 I've taken in the Max.

I do miss the manual trans I had in my Cobra though. The only reason I didn't get the 6 speed was because I am in a little over 90 minutes worth of traffic each week day and that's not fun with a manual.

Just thought I'd share,

Johnny V.

6spd vs. auto? You shoulda gone with the 6spd ;-)

I don't have the commute you do, (heck I don't spend that much time each WEEK commuting) but there's one stop and go drive I have to do once in a while.

Just leave it in second ;-) This VQ pulls like a tractor. Just a little clutch work, and you can still hold a cup of coffee in one hand

With all the clutch work in traffic, you'll have a huge left calf.

I belive your story, but there had to be something wrong with that Cobra...mechanically or driver error! Either way you deserve to gloat!

I was just looking for an excuse to use that smiley...no offense!!!

No offense taken Tony...

I think the Cobra was bone stock. The exhaust was the stock exhaust for sure. And given that the first mod anyone does to a 5 liter car is a filter or exhaust, I'm guessing it was stock throughout.

I don't think it's too hard to believe if you assume the '93 Cobra driver was a mediocre driver. Those cars ran 13.8-14.3 bone stock when they were brand new. Given that they're 9 years old and tired now, there's no reason an '02 Max shouldn't be able to take a stock one.

I need to take my '02 to the track and see what it runs. It's going to be weird racing down the 1/4 mile strip without a helmet on...

If a car gets that tired in just 9 years and less than 130k or so miles, then it is junk.

Yeah...definitely a mediocre driver! The .5 sec difference in the 1/4 time is HUGE!!! If a bone stock Cobra can do a 13.8 ET then even a 6-speed 2K2 (stock) wouldn't be able to hang with it, much less an auto!
