Se Tails?

I have some questions about SE tails and my search has not found me the answer. First off I was wondering if I should even get them. My max is Grey Lustre so im deciding if the smoked tails or my red tails would look better...so give me your honest opinions. If I do buy them from my friend where could i get the sealant used to install them properly...any help would be appreciated!

The SE tails would look best, that's the only tails on the Maxima that i really like. Though i'd appreciate it more if it was tinted lighter or used CF inside.

You can get the silicone sealant at any auto parts store.

Re: Se Tails?

On Grey Lustre paint, my personal preference are the black SE tails.
My 2000 SE was this color and the blacks looked good, Although I've seen clears on a 2002 Grey Lustre as well and they look fine.

Now that I have a black 2002 GLE, I find I don't like the clears on black. I just got a set of black tails from someone and will be putting them on soon. It'll be the only Maxima with no wing but SE tail lamps.

Of course, this is all my opinion.. it's what YOU want that counts. My wife wants me to keep the clears..

I've never really looked at other 00-01 SE tails, but are they pure black or not? Mine almost look carbon-fiberish, but definately not pure black..

It's basically a GLE tail that's smoked black instead of tinted red. It looks CF-ish due to the diamond cut-like glass.

Actually more like a GXE tail with smoked outside. The GLEs have a yellow lower half lens, which is part of my problem. I want the clear lower half of the GXE/SE and the smoke from the SE.

I'm still not sure what I'll think of the smoked lens / no spoiler combo on my car. At some angles no spoiler looks great.. at others I think it'd look better with a spoiler. But I'm not ready to drill holes in the trunk yet.

When I'm done with the swap I will consider selling the clears to someone.

All 00-01 tail lights had clear lower halves (turn signals). You said you want the clear lower half, and the smoked SE. So all you need is the 00-01 SE tail lights

Ok now the followup question!

I bought the SE tails and noticed that there is some sealant on the actual lens part. How the hell do i get this stuff off. There isnt much but enough to annoy me to have to take it off. Hopefully someone here knows the trick.

I didn't realize this.. when I got my 02 GLE with yellow bottom halves, I thought they were yellow in 00-01 as well. Guess that's cause I only paid attention to SEs until now!

I know it's an old thread, but that's not true! Take a look at my sig...

Of course, that won't be for long though. I think it needs a spoiler. Yes, I'm one of those GXE's masquerading as an SE.
