Suicidal bugs...
Ok guys, I did a search and came up with a few bug remover products...but I'm worried about what they might do to a clear bra.
I've got one of those 3M clear bras on my hood, accompanied by an assortment of bug splatters that 4 car washes (handwashed, aching arms after scrubbing) have failed to liberate from my hood.
I went to Wal-Mart to see what they had to offer and they had 2 brands of Tar and Bug Remover - one that was "flammable" and one that was citrus based (really the only differences I could tell). It seemed to me that the flammable one might contain some chemicals that could loosen/or eat away at the clear bra so I got the citrus based one.
I might as well have thrown my money away. It didn't seem to do any good. So, those of you with clear bras what do you use to get the bug splatters off while safely keeping your clear bra?
Thanks,
John

Two words--- Clay Magic
This is available as a kit at most autozones. One blue bar of clay and bottle of lube. It is amazing at how effortlessly it removes stubborn bug and tar remains. Just wash off thouroughly what you can before you clay it.

I'd be interested in finding out how to get the bugs out that seem to be embedding in the paint. and i don't have a clear bra. clay bars don't work. clear coat body scrubs don't work. the bugs are so stubborn, its almost like they're rock chips. but they're not - they're bugs...

I'd say more of an orangepeel but it is hard to see unless you are looking for it (depends on how good the installer is).
Clearguard is a 8mm thick sheet (40mm on headlight covers) of 3M ScotchCal with alcohol activated adhesive on one side. Basically an installer sprays a 35% alcohol mixture under is while stretching it across the bumper or whatever. He uses a "foam squeegee" like tool to stretch it and smooth out wrinkles.
It's very good paint protection and actually forms a sort of hard based coat over time - very resistant to small rocks, bugs, etc.
A number od ccompanies have their flavor - Ultrashield, xPel, Stoneguard, etc. and the material is always the same but the patterns might be different (might cover more area, things like that).
Do a search - there's a lot of info on this.

How do you handle the wax along the edge of the clearguard - That really bugs me.

I'm careful along the edge of the 3M with the clay bar (lots of moisture/lubricant). I don't just slide the bar over the edge. Same with the wax and I use my fingernail with microfibre polishing cloth along the edge for any excess wax. Works for me.
