Cattman update

As many of you know (like you all care!!) I've had a CA Y-pipe on order for almost 5 months now. I called and spoke to Lori today and she said that Brian expects these to be in next week!!! The flex section problem has been fixed and the new ones should be awesome! Just FYI for everyone that may be thinking about getting one, they are on their way...finally.

Keep us posted as to when the pipe actually ships.

I hope the pipe was worth the wait.

Yes, check the General Forum sticky.

The mesh inner lining was held by a POOR design and with flexing/time it would come loose, unravel, and block the exhaust track.

The NEW 4th gen Y-pipe is MANDREL bent vs. welded sections, the flex section is 8" long vs. 6"(?), and it doesn't have a mesh inner liner.

As of a few weeks(2-3?) ago the 5th and 5+ gen Y-pipe didn't exist, so I haven't seen those. IF they are nearing production, they will be made the same though.

Yeah...there were tons of heated debates on the topic of how much Cattman was/was not responsible for regarding warranty work. Everything that I've heard about the new Y-pipes has been very positive. I ordered mine before I even knew about the flex problems and fortunatley they stopped making them. But it's taken a LONG time for the new ones, but it should be worth it! I can't wait!!

How do you know if your old (CAttman) y pipe is bad. I have one of the older ones.

Everything I've heard about this is that you have about a 50% chance of the flex section collapsing and getting plugged up. How long have you had it installed? I would take it off and inspect the inside and go from there. BTW...there are tons of threads on this with a lot more information than I could possibly give you on this. It's been discussed to death.

I would contact Cattman directly and see what they say.

You have to drop the end that connects to the cat. Then just look inside with a flashlight and you'll see:

A)Mesh inner lining is tight and not unraveled.
OR
B)Mesh lining is frayed and shrinking towards the center of the pipe.

If you have a problem you will be able to tell it's not right. If the mesh ends are held with no signs of fraying it's fine.

Update...

I met with Brian today and he said they'll be shipping in a week(don't hold me to it!).

I was trying to convince him to let me be the guniea pig, but it sounds like he's sure enough they'll fit already. Oh well, it was worth a shot.

BTW, for the guy asking if he should worry after 3wks. I'd say no. The failures were LESS than 10%, so it's not really worth it unless your feeling symptoms.

Update...

I got this email from Brian the other day:

"I wanted to let everyone who is on the contact list for this part know that the new Cattman Performance Y-pipe for the 1999-2001 CA/NLEV-spec Maxima and I30 is ready and will start shipping from our warehouse on Monday, 26 August.

Final test fit was today and it went flawlessly. Mechanic was quoted to the effect of "I coulda thrown it on!"

I've done my best to limit this email to people who have expressed interest in this part, my apologies if I've missed the mark. If you have any doubts about whether or not your car is a CA/NLEV version, please check the attached diagram, it is not a virus. If its a Federal version, I have a Y-pipe for you already.

If you've already placed an order, no need to do so again. If you haven't, get your orders in ASAP (best tomorrow), I'll hold off on letting my larger mailing lists know about this until over the weekend. Order line is 800.795.1513 or 800.759.9022.

Oh yes, I don't have any pictures yet, but they are beautiful.
