My new wheels RUB!!! GRRRRRRRR!!!!!!
Well, I was all happy because I just got me new wheels, everything was great until I started taking some hard turns and went over speed bumps. The rear definately rubs! I had two not so heavy people in the back and going over a bump in the road makes them rub. It's hitting the inside splash gaurds. It's not rubbing a lot, but when I hit a bump, the sound reverberates through the car VERY loudly.
Now I have to raise the rear.
This is my setup as far as my suspension goes:
JIC FLT-A2 Coilovers
Addco rear sway
18x8.5 SSR GP-Theta 3pc w/ +37 offset
245/40/18 Nitto NT-555
Now, my question is, why doesn't Kloogy, Gunmax, or Y2KevSE's 8.5's rub? I have roughly the same offset as them. 35, ??, 38 respectively.

Do you have a pic of the wheel? I can't find it anywhere online.

Yes, I rub a bit when I turn the wheel fully to the left.
Reason why: I'm too low and my SC CAI causes the right plastic fender to bulge out a little.
Raise your car up about 2 notches, and you should be fine.

Here's my setup:
GC's
KYB AGX's
Stillen camber kit
I took it to a suspension shop and they said that everything looked fine. The weird thing is that the problem started ONLY after I got the KYBs on.......

have you considered modifying the splash guard so that it fits better.
how low is your front, my rears are tucked and they are only 7.5 wide so luckily i've never had any rubbing, but my tires are 245/40/18. i just wish my front was a little lower so it looked more even but unless i get coilovers that woin't happen with any springs out for a maxima. they are something i'd consider way after i was done with a lot of other things for my car, i really want AWESOME speakers now.

Kev- I didn't know you had the GC's. I thought I was the only one. Question- Why is it banging REALLY loud over bumps when I drop my car down? I know that I'm not bottoming out. It's coming from the wheel well.

I found out where it's rubbing.
I need to shave the inside of the fender 1mm, literally, 1mm!! When the suspension compresses, the sidewall of the tire is JUST grazing the fender. Out comes the dremel.....

Are you still loving the JICs? I'm so set on them, but I'm still trying to save up. BTW, did you ever measure your drop or see how low they can be adjusted?

Those will fit for sure. If I had 1-1.5mm of more clearance on the fender it would not rub at all. You, with a 7.5" rim, and a 42mm offset, you have 12.7mm+5mm=17.5mm of clearance.
Did you already buy your C3's? IF not let me know.

I have the 35 offset with 245/35's... I'm sure your Coilovers make your car lower. I have only done real hard cornering with 2 people in the car. I have done a bit of driving with 4 people in the car, a lot of it even in Baja Calif... no rubbing yet.

Thanks for your offer though, and for your reply to my post.
Ps- how do you like your rear sway bar ? Are the brackets already there for connecting the rsb, or whats involved in getting it installed? (have had my max for less than two weeks, havent had a chance to fully inspect underside yet)

I know 245 on a 7.5 is pushing it but i went to one of the best shops in the area and they mounted them for me no scratches. i like the bulge you get with that wide a tire on that rim. it's gonna be hard to curb rash them plus you get that extra contact patch.

Front is banging. Loud. Especially while turning and going over bumps. Front setting is on 2 although it bangs on 4 also. I'm starting to think that KYBs are crap.

My suspension in the rear is lowered so that I can just fit my finger between the top of the tire and fender. The front fender gap is a bit tighter than that.

What are you guys refering to when you mention the offset of your wheels? Sorry for the ignorance.

If you only need 1mm, Id give this a try. If you are careful, you can do it without cracking the paint on the inside of the lip. (The dremel will obviously remove the paint, which can lead to corrosion down the road.)

i'm not 100%, but i believe MM evo5's in 19's have 40mm offset. i called tirerack the other day and that's what they told me.

Instead of the dremel, try a wooden baseball bat. Sometimes, you can roll the inside of the fender lip with the bat enough to clear the offending tire. Put one side of the bat on the top of the tire and have the handle end sticking out (towards you if you are standing looking at the tire). Then, gently "roll" the bat along the top of the tire while pushing down on it (so the bat wants to rub up against the inside of the wheel well.)
