Brake upgrades - this works and it's cheap

We all know how sh!tty the brakes are on our Maximas. The problem with mine was that the front rotors were heating up too fast and not cooling down fast enough. Thus my pads would glaze and fade was REALLY bad after driving hard.

Today I installed a set of Performance Friction Carbon Metalic pads and the brakes feel MUCH better. The harder you push them, the more they want to bite. Even if your brake pads still have life on them, trash them, they are no good. Mine had over 50% life left on them, now they're in the trash. They should cost you less than $40 for a set.

Brake history:
11,000 New rotors (Nissan)
14,000 New rotors and pads (Nissan)
28,000 same rotors, new pads - FEELS THE BEST

My friend that owns another shop sent them to me. I don't know if he's a distributor or not.

I spoke with Greddy on Friday. They do not have anymore 2000+ exhausts and they could not give me an ETA. ie it's gonna be a while.

Autozone usually carries these pads. I'd go one step further though and spend the money to out a set of Porterfield's or equiv. on the car.

I put these pads on our Honda last year and they were a notable improvement over stock pads. No warping yet although my wife surely tries to wear them out.

get some new rotors too...either slotted or cross drilled...works better with those metalic pads..

Can you put up a "how to" for us retards? How hard is it to change brake pads? Do you have to bleed the system or anything?

http://www.5thgenmaximas.com/brakepad.html That is Russ's writeup. But it is easy, no need to bleed the lines or anything.

as long as you don't take out the brake lines from the calipers, you don't need to bleed the lines...

but it's also better to use this combination rather than just metalic pads...harder pads will cause premature wear on your stock rotors anywayz...

metalic pads+either slotted or cross drilled rotors(i'd personally recommend the slotted ones tho)+stainless steel brake lines

A few things that Russ's write up leaves out:

When you put in the new pads, you need to conditon the surface of the pads. First, take a sanding block and sand off any rought spots on the edges of the pads. Then, place a sheet of sand paper on a flat, smooth, hard surface. Place the pad on it and make some figure "8's". Sometimes the face of the pads are too rough and can cause uneven wear. A "brake spreader" will be a lot easier to use than the giant C-clamp that Russ uses in the write up.

Russ, if you are reading this, nice write up.
