i'm considering getting an exhaust on my whip but i dont want it to be really loud...i like the stealth of my Max and i dont want to lose that entirely...do you suggest a cat-back or just a rear section....i'm considering a b-pipe as well but i'm not sure so if you guys can suggest anything i would appreciate it!!!

exhaust

I have a HKS rear section and I love the sound. Its deep and throaty but much more quiet than the Greddy. If you get the b-pipe you will have a full catback with the HKS anyway.

if you want a quiet exhaust system, then just get a rear section alone..
if you go with a cat back or add a b-pipe later to make your own cat back system, then the sound level will go up.
furthermore, if you add a y-pipe to your catback system, the sound will go up even more.

Is this mainly about looks or are you after performance,
If it's for looks then get a greddy it's by far the coolest looking exhaust made for the maxima, but also the loudest.
You could get a Universal exhaust and get a b-pipe and such made and it would be a little cheaper but again loud.
if you want performance but don't want to have an exhaust that drones then just keep your stock exhaust and get a y-pipe, with the money you saved not buying a new rear section or a full cat-back you could retip the factory mufler or whatever, really there's a lot of interesting things you can do; be creative.

Are there any benefits to a y-pipe and everything else stock? How much more noise will that bring?

if ya want just a muffler you could get one on ebay for about $100 and a muffler shop could put it on for proly 30bux.. if you just have the stock b pipe and a muffler the noise level wont be to loud.

It is awesome. Apparently the catback and muffler only make a 3 hp difference when you remove it completely.

I just put my stock muffler back on. I had a Fucuz. WAY TOO LOUD!!!

Now I have:
Berk Intake
Frankencar Midpipe
Stillen Y Pipe
Custom 2 1/2" catback
stock muffler

It sounds AWESOME! Just the way I wanted it. Quiet for everyday driving but VROOOOOM at WOT.....

Good try bro I had a 99 Civic Si b4 I got the Max so I just have to get used to the noise...noise that was non-existent since I sold the Si and have had the Max w/o the Greddy, a matter of a couple of months.

Well I can honestly tell ya that it is one of the loudest cars I've been in. It's got a deep growl/rumble and IMHO is not ricey at all. The only others I can compare to are my buddies' rides: a 96 300ZX Turbo w/ an HKS and an 89 RX-7 with an Apexi. You can definitely hear the deep growl/rumble even at 1.5-2K rpm and it gets progressively louder as ur rpms go up. But as soon as you let ur foot off the gas pedal or hit 4th gear (automagic) you can barely notice it. When u're doing 60-70 on the expressway u will notice a slight buzz/drone.

I came off the ramp the other day and hit it when I saw a TL-S, prolly 4-5K rpms...I think the Greddy's growl scared the $hit out of him...he didn't wanna play no more

I've come to the conclusion that if you've got a Greddy on ur Max, u won't need any stickers...chances are others will hear the growl and watch the tail-lites pass them in a couple of secs...
