springs install and alignment

i'm still debating if i should install springs after i get my new rims. most people think that i should. now, IF i decide to, i'll prob get H&R's from tirerack.

now, where is the best place to install the springs?

people have posted that it takes time for the springs to settle. so, how long afterwards do i need to get an alignment? 4 wheel or front only?

thanks.

Best place to install them is your house, takes only 3-4hrs to do it if you got the tools, if not them need to go to a shop and get it done.

They will settle, I would recommend front wheel alignment after 1month. I did not get the front wheel alignment and it messed up my tires after 1yr. But my rear tires were fine, so that is why I say only the front wheel alignment is needed.

i don't think i have the necessary tools or skillz to install the springs myself. i'm in the memphis area. does anyboy know of a good quality shop to install in this area? i'm also willing to drive to nashville...even atlanta to get it down...if the price is right and quality of work is good.

I'd look for a shop that does some race car work either as part of the business or on the side. Circle track stuff, not the drags. Are you getting caster-camber plates at the same time? (Recommended if you going for much over 1" drop.)

You'll want an alignment right away just so you're starting off close. You don't want a bad tire wear pattern to even get started. But expect to have to re-align it later after the springs have settled a bit.

If you can, save money and have someone help you with the install. A lil' added bonus, the OEM wheels look nice with the lowered car. It may make you wait a while before ordering new wheels. I would lower your car first. Mine was lowered two weeks ago; I am getting an alignment and new tires soon.

Good luck

ps Newman, I can't wait to see those wheels!

we only need a 2 wheel alignment(front 2). w/ the design of the max rear suspension, there is no need to do the rears.

If you are not experienced, I would pay to get it done. I just don't believe in doing trial & error, and especially on my car(more so the suspension). I know the "professionals" can f#ck up sometimes, but I would just rather pay the money and get it done right. I paid $170.00 to get it done at a rim & tire shop that sells a lot rims and do a lot of custom work in my area.

are you in the atlanta area? i'm in tennesse, but would be willing to drive to atlanta to get my springs put on. i'm not certain about "performance" shops around here. which shop did you go to? did they have springs there...or did you get them from somewhere else? how much for the h&r's? what about alignment? included or not?
