Result of tranny problems....

After getting my third tranny in and now I am somewhat happy with it. The tranny slips a little between 1st and second but not too bad now after about 3k miles After not being able to get a brand new tranny when it was slipping bad at first, I ended up getting a 100k mile Silver Security+Plus plan from Nissan. So I don't have to worry for another 50k about buying a new tranny, Nissan will cover it.

Aside from being on my third tranny I have been treated fairly from Nissan and love my new service plan!!!!!

Re: Result of tranny problems....

I would like to know peoples opinion on what i should do with my tranny. Between 1st and 2nd, it acts like it has NO clue what it wants to do. Doesn't matter how hard I have the gas pushed. Sometimes I have to give it a little gas tap to make it shift like I am driving my 65 Olds. What Gives and what should I do??

Take it to the dealer and drive the service manager in it. Call Nissan and start your case. Welcome to the tranny club!! Get updated TCM and new solenoids!!

hey while we are one the subject of transmissions im at 22,000 miles time for my 11,000 mile service which includes a NEW tranny. HAHA Nissan builds these transmissions for sentras and sticks them in everything they make. I hate this BS every 11k.! Oh well at least its FREE :-)

Man that sux! Has anyone ever confirmed whether Nissan had a bad batch of trannys or what? Mine is at 33k and I've had no problems. I just changed the tranny fluid through Valvoline until I can get me some synthetic ATF but I've noticed nothing amiss with my shifting.

Re: Result of tranny problems....

I have taken it to the dealer 3 times. The problem is, it only does the "Long Hold" in 1st gear when it is cold. I even left it over night. He finally told me Nissan had an updated shift program for it, but i would have to wait, cause the program tools batteries were dead and they couldn't find the charger. HAHAHAHA about 5 days later i got it "reprogramed". it worked for about 2 weeks, or i just didn't drive it/notice it that much, until it started again.

solenoid in 2k is causing the slipping from 1st - 2nd gear
TCM (transmission control module) in 2k is causing the slipping from 2nd to 3rd....

prob. they switched the TCM, but didnt replace the solenoid inside of tranny....

well just got back from Legend nissan where all the techs where oogoling over my car and asking me questions about it where all i wanted was a transmission. Anywayz they said that nissan will probably come to inspect the car since its gonna be the third transmission but i doubt that much effort on nissans part but whatever ill be getting it back in a week and a half!

I had my car at the dealer today and asked them about the way my tranny was slipping. The tech guy told me all the 2000 maximas slipped between 1 - 2 and 2 - 3 because nissan wanted them to shift smooth without shift shock. I don't buy this explanation but I didn't bother arguing. Anyway I had my solinoid and tcm changed about 40,000 km ago and now it is starting to act the same as before. It is worse when it is cold. Will nissan cover the parts again now that my warranty is up or am I on my own. Also, how bad does the tranny have to be before they will replace it? I find myself driving more with the overdrive off because it seems to want to stay in too high a gear all the time.

Why are we having so many tranny problems when JATCO claims these are state of the art!! Quality control at the Nissan manufacturing plants?? It's disturbing...

"High degree of reliability and proven market record"... I'd like to see from where they are getting their market data.

Right, pure crap. They programmed in a longer than needed *DELAY*. They didnt put *SLIP* in there. Slip is the destructive result of the longer than needed delay. Yes, your car may hang between gears, but if the RPM jumps, you have a problem. plain -n- simple.. dont let them argue that.

Funny you say that. The shift from 1st to second raises about 3-400 rpm between shifts. They say nothing is wrong and won't fix it. Funny, my other two trannies never did that, and why no lag or raise of rpms between 2nd and 3rd? I ended up with a waranty for free but I hate the shift now.

oh, just call Nissan of NA, tell them the RPM is jumping up and the dealer wont fix it. A slipping transmission is a safety issue. You cant safely merge or cross traffic if you cant judge if your car will accerate or not. they will get it fixed.
