73K Miles and I want to put springs on my car. Should I change my shocks and struts?
73K Miles and I want to put springs on my car. Should I change my shocks and struts?
I would like to know if it is absolutely necessary to change out my OEM SE shocks and struts when I switch my springs out to Eibachs? I would get into some new shocks and struts if there was a definitive set to buy but there is much dispute to what is good and what is not. I really dont want to go with anything "modified" like the KYB's. I am not going to be doing the install so I want to get something as straight forward as possible.

500-600, springs will typically be ~$210 and the shocks/struts will run you ~350ish(lifetime warranty)

you'll need shocks with the stiffer springs anyway..and besides, it'll save you on labor if you do both at the same time.
This is the best mod you can do. Do the install yourself (with help) and you will be sooooo happy! I rode in Cutlr7's car and I HAD to change mine, too. If you keep the stock shocks, the ride will be too rough, especially with Eibachs.
Do it

I had Eibachs put on when my car was new. Installer did not cut the bump stops on OEM struts. At 13k miles the rear suspension was banging on bumps pretty bad. I was disappointed to say the least. Galo let me drive his car with Tokocos/Eibach. What a difference. I just got my Tokicos installed last week and it has made a world of difference. Sorry this is long. Short answer - Eibach/Tokico is good combination. Yes, replace your struts at the same time.

Irvine, I would pay top dollar to get my car looking like yours. Back in my BMW days, H&R was a good quality spring but it was very difficult to get a set that would actually drop your car. Most of them would retain the OE look. Eibach's were a bit more of a "guarantee" that you would get that inch to inch an a half drop that everyone wanted.

just remember tho, i've cut one coil from the front and rear to get my car to sit like this. although Eibach spring did lower my car by 1 1/2 inch or so, the fender gap was still crazy. the ride is just a tad bit harsher, but it's not bouncy. you can ask some people from the org who's either been in my car or seen my car about that.
