What has to be modified? The deep cycle batteries come with both top post and side posts. Only thing is that the top posts are sort of closer to the front of the car instead of the other side. You might have to extend the wires at the most.

kevin posted something about putting a perch underneath his red top to lift it up above the lip. other than that, i didn't know a mod was required.

1 week after I bought my car I tried to migrate my Optima red top over to my Max, I ran into the same problem with the positive top post being too far "in" on the battery (the maxima positive harness is not long enough.

There are three solutions:

1. They have post extenders that you can put on the battey
2. Cut the factory battery clamp and put a longer one on there.
3. (and I think the best solution), I contacted Optima, and they make an orange top that has the battery posts that extend farther to the edge of the battery, thus, the nissan harness will fit.

a lil off topic question:

typically, how long does the stock battery last before it needs replacement? my mom's (from a 97 i30) lasted for 5 years and now barely holds a charge. that's why i put the optima in my car, so that she can take my battery.

i just want to know if that's about the typical lifespan of the battery. thanks!

I was going to do the same thing, someone else here had suggested it but I decided against. At the time I didn't have a system, but that's about to change this week.
